EDIT : here we go heres a shot of having the upper hand ..... you get remembered for your bathurst wins more so than your championship wins ..... ok i think that sounds good
    That'll be intereting.

I assume he'll be driving on the side of the track with knobby tyres on two wheels? It was interesting when Wayne Gardiner transferred across, but at least the principles were the same.

BTW, I agree with your edit!

I think it will be great if chad gets a ride and there is also talk of troy bayliss wanting to step in to a supercar ..... both super competitive guys and hate to lose .

Hmmm, only noticed this thread after it has slipped off into discussing taxi drivers.

Mark Weber is a good racing driver, better than you are (or I am).
He has consistently beaten his team mates in F1.
When he was test driver for Renault his times were close to or matched the lead drivers.
So he is good, probably not the best current driver but good enough to take the title in the right seat.

Nobody gets a F1 drive without talent, more talent that you (or I) have.
Everyone in F1 is equal to or better than anyone in the local taxi series.

    As references:
When Larry Perkins first came to local touring cars after being declared a 'failure' in F1 (which I think means he didn't have a rich personal sponsor) he was equal to anyone that had a local seat.
After Alan Jones retired from F1 for the second time he came to local touring cars as a somewhat overweight and out of practice 'has been', good enough to match anyone at the time when wet weather nullified the car differences.

I must have upset someone by now, so I should stop

Lowndes couldn't speak the language so had trouble getting the car set up.

I dont think anybody will get upset. F1 is a significant step up over any domestic category, and so even someone considered to be a failure in F1 should be at the top end of a domestic series. Re Mark Webber though, there is a lot more to a complete driver than lap times, and the last GP was a highlight of that. As said before, this is all in the context of his peers though, not the greater population.

    Hello All,
I think Mark is a top driver but has had some rotten luck, yes he also makes mistakes.hes only human!.
He,s an Aussie in the top form of motorsport and as such should be supported by all Aussies no matter what!.
When he does well Australia doe,s well.
It will be a top day when he wins a race in F1.

As for Mika Hakkinen,He was and is A Fantastic driver,he always had buckets of speed but a lot of bad luck.but when his luck was good he won races and Titles. As someone else said there are a lot of simularitys between him and
    Webber.

Thats my two cents worth anyway.

    OOHH and holden SUCK!

Hows this for the calibre of Hamilton. It really hasn't helped Webber to look good. Note that Webbers time on the grid was in the wet, but it doesn't tell how wet, but check how his times compare to Mansells and the Stigs!

    Slunnie- no!

sorry to be rude. i love topgear, probably my favourite show, but it cant be taken seriously. there has been a few online peoples who were anal enough to try and calculate some of the shows various laptimes by going over footage/ superimposong different footage and whatnot. basically most of the times' are abritrary figures that make for good viewing.

sure hamilton could still be genuinely faster than webber in the suzuki liana and also in an f1 car, but that segment doesnt do justice to that argument.

    OK.

Are you saying that the cars are modified, or the tracks are changed, the lap times fudged and have no relationship to the actual times???
