Sounds like it's gone past the fun part.
Any chance of getting to a fitting station tomorrow?
I'm running away now.

My 1985 (2 bodies) didn't have them from new and I think that Scouse is correct that Land Rover got away from having them for some years possibly well after your 1987 model.
What I would be concerned about would be bolting them to the floor. Not only does your 1987 probably have the aluminium floor, where the anchorage can rip right through the floor panel (the rear seatbelt anchorages are strapped to the chassis via a bolt under the floor), the seat itself can collapse. For the same reason, I would also be concerned about strapping them to the seatback, there was a family who were members of the Range Rover Club of NSW back in about 1988 who had 2 children die in a serious accident where the body deformed and the seat collapsed rendering the childrens seat belts useless.
I would be attending a seatbelt fitting station and having one of the restraint bars that are used for seat belts in the rear of vans fitted. (Or at least having them supply the bar and fixings then fitting it yourself.)

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

I had the 'Ski pole' set up istalled by a fitting station in mine (88 Classic).
I understood that this was the only real option.
In fact I still have it - I never really looked at how it was installed.
Where abouts are you located ? if in Sydney, I'd be happy to sell it to you at the appropriate price if your interested.
So that changed in 1999 then with the D2, but that wasn't really my point. But of course I stand corrected.Nope. My 1994 Disco has three above the rear door.
I am in melb.
"For the same reason, I would also be concerned about strapping them to the seatback, there was a family who were members of the Range Rover Club of NSW back in about 1988"
this concerns me a lot and the seats are very weak. however with a strong enough anchor point and the kids not actually on the seats but in other seats with 5 point harnesses the seat is not relevant so much. As far as I can tell LR went cheap on just about everything on the inside.
I will go to a fitting station and see what they have. I am also considering a roll bar type thing over the rear seats where a cadge goes.
I checked on a 1993 RR that we had at work for a while. It had the roof mounts from the factory.
They're just folded 1mm (approx) steel but they are so weak that it was easy to bend them by hand. Land Rover list the bracket separately & it's around $20 from memory.
I copied the basic profile but used 5mm steel & braced the edges as well. The roof itself is the same & Land Rover didn't even strengthen the mounting points for their weak brackets. I used plates behind the sheet metal to strengthen mine.
LR use M4 (10mm head) nuts & bolts, I used M6 or M8 (it was a while ago).
I do have some photos but they're on my work PC (and I'm not back there for a week or so).

thanks for everyone who replied, I am doing the snow day in 2 wks sat so will give me time to sort this all out. At least now I know the full story with LR and child restraints!.
Any pix guys of what the bracket or plate looks like???
i'm keen to make my own and will make some for others if i can get an idea on where it mounts and what it looks like??
Might be time to cruise to the wreckers and look at a 92 onwards RRC
check out this thread where I already posted my solution with a video.
