    2.8L Tdi?

Read about it here: % of Landies still going vs % of Cruisers

Anybody know anything about them? Stroked or bored?

Ie. Can one buy a stroker crankshaft from that 2.8 and whack it in a tdi? that'd be nifty.

They're a Brazillian (or was it Sth African ?) motor, a fellow AULROian was importing them for a while.

If you do a search for( landyonline) and then search that site for (2.8 Power Stroke) you will find a lot of info on that unit. They do come out of Brazil. they have been around for a while. I gather they good but not as easy to convert to as the sales dept would indicate. That may or may not be correct as Ive not seen one fitted. Interesting alternative all the same.

    thanks!

    lol at their technical details:

    Another bit of info:

The 300tdi has a design life of 200 000km (according to some sort of industrial standard) and the 2.8i has a design life of 300 000km according to the same scale.

Well, as my disco is apparently on its 3rd engine according to the service history, this would make a good option for next time (well i hope there won't be a next time)

Edit: well actually having read the price, i think i'll stick to the tdi. but oh well.

LR would have saved alot of time and money and alot of owner headaches if they made the 2.8 instead of the td5. Pat

They were from Brazil originally built by International but no longer in production.

They were a straight drop in replacement for a 300Tdi,

They run a Variable Vane Turbo which is it's biggest improovement over the 300Tdi.

They were around the $10k to $11k, depending on who you spoke to a few years ago.

I havnt got one but I did a lot od research into it to see if it would be feasable and have seen one fitted to a deefa and with a LR rubber mat off a disco on top of it you wouldnt know the difference.

I found that seems my Tdi runs really well and is still economical after 300,000kms I decided to spend a bit on the 300Tdi than to replace it.

I might find a VV turbo one day for it and do some inj pump mods (tuning) as well as a new set of injectors but that will come as it;s needed.

for $14k it would be worth buying, swapping the donk for your own 300tdi and then onselling for say $8-10 so you get a 2.8 powerstroke with 70kays for $6-8k.......

    Are my recollections correct at
    -Chain driven timing gear
    -Variable Vane Turbo
-Cooling system changes to reduce overheating issues
-Uber balanced crank and rods for smoothness????
