Hi Salamanquesa,
I am pretty chilled with the whole thing now although I was intially annoyed. My partner has been sick with bronchitis for a couple of weeks (ie not her usual chipper self) and with the quirkiness of the new Defender started having second thoughts about buying it. She drove the TD5 for 8 years without a problem and the new car keeps going back to the dealer. She talked to the Service manager for quite a while today and she is feeling much better about the whole thing. Nothing that a glass of red won't fix at any rate!

We have finally got our '08 Defender back. Nothing like owning a brand new car and then only managing to drive for one day in 6 weeks....
It only spent 3 weeks with the aftermarket guys and nearly 3 more weeks with the dealership sorting out the surging problem. It turns out the fuel tank was not cleaned before installation and there was big gobs of swarf (bits of plastic shavings) in there! What a PITA! At least it's fixed though, after most of the fuel system including injectors, fuel pump and ECU were replaced......
Anyway, school holidays in WA are around the corner and my better half will be taking our baby on its first outback trip - caving on the Nullarbor.
I will post some photos in the next couple of days while we still have our TD5 Defender. We have the handover this weekend.

Absolutely!! Although my other half was initially reticent about the new Defender - having now got it back and driving it quite a bit over the last couple of days she is happy as a pig in muck.
I am sure she will be putting it through it's paces when she heads out in a week or so to the Nullarbor. She drives like a nana on the road to save fuel because she hates fueling up, but out bush is a different story. I seem to recall on a Kimberley trip she took a sweeping bend on a wide track rather fast and slid sideways for quite a bit. I'm used to her driving like that but our two macho mates in the back looked at each other, didn't say a word and then put their seat belts on. I cracked up laughing!
Anyhow, it's just as well it's fixed as I was the one who convinced her to upgrade. If it turned out that we needed to paint it lemon yellow, I would have been in all sorts of bother. Ha Ha.

Cripesamighty
think of your issues with your new deefie in this light, you people with the new cars are the fault finders for all us cheapies who buy them second hand in 5-10 years time, so in effect, you are doing everyone on this forum a great service by owning this vehicle and dealing with all the issues that come with a new land rover!
thank you for your contribution
