I'm not a vet, but even though "docking" is now a dirty word I'm sure that any vet would dock those pups due to there being a hygiene issue.
my bitch has recently had a litter of pups and 2 of them have what i can only describe as broken tails.
the 1 has a 90 degree kink about 2/3 rds of the way down and the other about a 60 degree kink. it doesn't really affect anything they do except when they go to the toilet = messy tails
my question is, if i take them to the vets will they dock they're tails or just leave it as is. the pup's are now 3 weeks old and whilst the tails were apparent from the beginning the mess situation is only starting now which is why i haven't considered docking before.

So if you broke your tail would you put a rubber band around it and wait for it to turn black or go straight to the quacks in agony pleading for it to be fixed up and returned to normal working order?
Lets get one thing straight, Docking should only be done with ships, not dogs.
Again I am not vet, but waiting three weeks? If they were broken chances are the tails would be set into that position now and will need to be broken and re set. This will be painful for the pups.
if they were born that way I would assume congenital defect rather then a broken tail, hence no pain, and as they are three weeks old removal of the affected part of the tail would be under anaesthesia.

thanks crump.
i know i said "what i can only describe as being broke" but pay attention to the what i can only describe part dobbo.
these pups were born like this so it's obviously a birth defect maybe from lying in the wrong way whilst still inside.
i too am against docking which is why i didn't take them in the first place ( i have 2 rotty's - neither docked) and was hoping that this wouldn't have to be done but as it's now getting messy then i feel that it would be better for the dogs in the long run in terms of finding them a good home.
We do the same to cattle with theirbits.

Food is food, pets are pets. For the record I wouldn't dock a lamb or a piglet either
Piggy, I used to have a Piggy. I miss her company, we'd sit for hours and hours and talk, I'd look at her, she'd look at me. It's as if we were both thinking of the same thing at the same time, so one day I worked up the courage and asked her the question.
I think she said Yes, so I called up the butcher and the rest is cellulite.
And lets not forget the unkindest cut of them alldocking is still done with lambs and piglets but its funny how we get all emotive about it when its done to a "puppy"as we sit down to our pork chops or lamb roast.,
