I'd say they probably weren't in a position to hang about for 10, while they checked for a change in response.

    10 shots

Well dust has cleared we get to see the family side of the story. A Young boy who saw his Dad die of Cancer 4 years ago and had a chunk of his heat rip way and has not handle it well.
Three police who are confronted with what they see a mad man 10 shots latter a dead boy.
take the guns out of the picture and you would have a boy in hospital getting help. they do it in most of europe NZ England **** what about sending in a dog all waiting for backup its on going in aussie

Over the years I have known heaps of police and still do, just like the rest of society there are good ones and not so good ones BUT the main point is they do a thankless job much of the time. They are rediculed by many until they need them then scream because they haven't turned up instantly.

Many years ago I was a pet meat shooter tried using a pistol a couple of time and I couldnt shoot the broard side of a barn with one. only in the movies do police "wing" someone.

I cant put myself in the police shoes, nor in the kids, but I will say this, my self preservation would kick in if some machette welding person came at me after having 2 cans of that spray in his face screaming he was going to kill me - funnily enough I would believe him and do exactly what the police did.

I feel for the police who did this, as the may be trained to carry out lethal force if necessary but they are someones fathers, children, brothers and husbands (if male) and deserve to come home every night safe without having an arm cut off from a 15 year old lunatic because they thought gee I might be able to block the 2 machettes with one batton - A reasonable human will only kill another human if there really is no other alternative and then the poor buggers will probably regret it for the rest of their lives.

The way I see it is, the police got some target practice/pistol training on a moving target and my tax dollars dont go supporting this sperm donor and the next generation of parasites on society that he would invariably breed, its a win-win all around!

    Uhuh......

Tyler Cassidy a member of white supremacist group Southern Cross Soldiers

HE was all goofy smile and daggy hair, the cheeky kid with the two thumbs up and an air of mischief. Somewhere between the retro sweater and a new skinhead crop, Tyler Cassidy turned from the "gentle" boy in his family photo to a rum-drinking, card-carrying white supremacist.

By the time he faced off with police in a Melbourne skate park on Thursday night he was an angry "Southern Cross Soldier", known for his temper and random acts of violence.
He dared police to kill him before he killed them, The Daily Telegraph reports.

Within just four months of falling in with neo-Nazis and criminals, Tyler was dead. At only 15.

He was shot and killed when three police officers opened fire after Tyler threatened to kill them with two knives he had earlier stolen from Kmart.

Victorian Assistant Commissioner Tim Cartwright said Tyler could not be subdued by two doses of capsicum spray and continued towards the officers, still carrying the knives, as a warning shot was fired.

"He was saying, 'Kill me, I am going to kill you'," Mr Cartwright said.

On Wednesday, the day before the fatal stand-off, Tyler was on a mission.

"Tomorrow we're drinking rum whether you like it or not," Tyler told fellow Southern Cross Soldier "Azza" on his MySpace page.

Yesterday, members of SCS and Proud To Be Aussie, who count neo-Nazis and criminals in their ranks, paid tribute by vowing revenge.

"We will get them f. . .ers back, memba revenge is sweet," SCS member Kingston wrote on Tyler's MySpace page.

A former friend, who knew Tyler well, spoke of his violent temper and told the Herald Sun that had the police not shot Tyler he would have made good on his threat to kill one of the officers.
According to some close to the 15-year-old, Tyler regularly taunted police as "pigs" and - although far from looking the part - embraced a skinhead ethos. The troubled youth was expelled six months ago from Templestowe College for throwing a chair, threatening a teacher, fighting and truancy. His former friend said he had fallen in with the wrong crowd and begun hanging around a group of self-styled skinheads, often at Eltham train station. He said Tyler was known for his sporadic violence, but other than an assault matter he had no criminal history. He did "minor things, such as randomly attacking people he did not like the look of, or acting tough and starting fights with anyone he could", the former associate said. "He was always angry, and after trying to help him out for longer than anyone else I know, more than anyone I know, he was beyond help." Tyler's family have blamed his death on heavy-handedness and lack of negotiating skills on the part of police.

A family statement said Tyler had a very gentle side and was simply striving to grow from a boy into a young man.

"I promise you my darling, I will fight for you as you were taken from me under the most horrific circumstances," Tyler's mother Shani said.

The All Nations Park where Tyler was shot appears to have been visited by like-minded racists, possibly because of its name.
A sticker for the Creativity Movement - another white supremacist group - is plastered beneath the All Nations Park sign.
Also note that these SCS have taken down their webpages etc since the shooting....I saw their myspace page.....appalling,

    Regards

    Stevo

    Good point.

If one is stupid enough to threaten 3 policemen pointing guns, what can one expect - of course they will shoot you if you threaten them (particulalrly after they've already used two cans of capsicum spray to little effect!). If someone doesn't have the brains to recognise this fact (or is too stoned or drunk to recognise this) then they are in trouble.

I recognise the fact that if I threaten a policeman with violence that at worst I could be shot and act accordingly. Whilst this is a sobering incident it's a bit like the Indiana Jones movie where the sabre toting arab displays his moves and gets shot - moral - threatening a bloke with a bigger weapon can have unwanted outcomes.

    Cheers,

    Franz
