After a difficult couple of years after a separation I've now got a place of my own and can build a shed!
It has been a long haul with a concreter that caused a few issues, but all done now, floor painted and ready to move stuff in and demolish the old single car garage. Once that is done I can finish the driveway.

    Our shed is up. Yes!
Floor needs a good clean though.
Now for electrics, road base and some earthworks. Does it ever end?

Well I decided we needed to throw up a little leanto on the shed down here. The issue is (if we ever get anywhere with the useless sacks of **** at the local council) we are going to extend ... and the extension will pretty much touch the side of the existing old carport.

You can of course spot the issue with the existing carport ?

There is 11 HUGE pine trees around the existing carport .... I also do not want an extension built beneath these for obvious reasons. The little leanto is also going to "bump" into the pine trees. There is also about 12 small gum trees down the side of the drive that will restrict access to the leanto (as they do the shed).

These trees started falling down last year (they must have been getting old). Luckily around the same time I'd purchased a chain saw ......... So I could clean up the HUGE mess they left.

I have no idea what that crazy child is doing. I had the 11 trees around the carport professionally felled. There wasn't a snowmans chance in hell I was going near them with a chainsaw (you just couldn't tell where they were going to drop). I had them dropped in two stages months apart. To give me a chance to cut them up.

The simple "before and after" shot of the trees doesn't give an idea of the effort involved. It took me probably 6 months to get them down, cut them up ... build and burn bonfires..... A full day behind a big track driven stump grinder to grind out the stumps away. Fortunalely I have a post hole digger for the tractor here, and it easily smashed its way down through any remaining roots to dig the foundations. I looked all over for a leanto kit .... Damn they are expensive. I ended up just buying the top hat/purlins and roofing locally.

So now we just need to fit the guttering back on .... knock down the old carport (it'll probably be moved elsewhere on the property ... the tractor and stuff can go under it). When I find some time.... Lets say, June ...... 2050 the way I'm going

Of course I did ask Santa for a new shed ..... I guess I must be on the naughty list .....

    12 x 21 x 4.5/3 3 Roller Doors (1 x 3m H x 3.15m W, 2 x 2.5m H x 2.77m W)Barn Style Roof Design $22270 -

    This one would be perfect.

I'm not sold on the idea of barns as they have uprights in the work area ... But surely 4 meter bays would be adequate

People get abit excited about having a few posts in the open areas of sheds. Most times they can be used as dividers for workshop areas and parking bays anyway. The big plus with them is that they provide support for rafters, which then can be made smaller ( and cheaper) as they don't have to span great distances.
If you are looking at building a shed, at least consider having/the placement of internal columns as it could mean a cheaper/ bigger toy room.

As a general rule, an increase in span is the most costly, then height and then length. 64mm top hat battens can span about 3mt, z100 about 4.5mt, z150 about 6mts and z200 up to 9mts. Wind loadings and shed design always need to be taken into consideration but you get the idea.
