If you are looking at building a shed, at least consider having and the placement of internal columns as it could mean a cheaper/ bigger toy room.

As a general rule, an increase in span is the most costly, then height and then length. 64 top hat battens can span about 3mt, z100 about 4.5mt, z150 about 6mts and z200 up to 9mts. Wind loadings and shed design always need to be taken into consideration but you get the idea.
If I ever get to build a shed ... the most expensive bit will probably be the floor. I have shedding around the place...

The carport you see in the middle has to come down ... it has no floor and lots of uprights that the kids (ok and the boss women) dent the car doors against no matter how often you say "Don't bang the doors into the posts". Its probably 10 x 6. I'll have to knock it down though. beside that is the new leanto. The issue with it is no floor and due to it being a leanto, its has very little height. The shed the leanto is attached to is probably 10years old. A crappy shed that is sound. But it's slab sweats moisture all winter. Its also very low and far to small (about 12 x 7.5 meters). The leanto onto the side is 12 x 6 meters.

The **** over in the corner of the picture is a 6 x 6 double garage with no floor. That was built out of used crap in the 1980s at a guess. I lifted it up and extend it out so the caravan would fit in ( the changes are as ****ty and dodgy as the original building so it matches). behind the water tank is an old 10 x 6 meter shed that looks like it was 2nd or 3rd hand when it was build down here. There reality is all the crap in that corner should be bulldozed and a nice barn put there (or over in the paddock beside the green shed). Only money and time stops me

Yes, that barn pictured.... 20 meters x 12 meters with probably 4 meter height down the middle. I'd up-spec the middle door to give 4 meters height clearance. That way I could put caravan in there if I needed to ( with A/C on the roof, some offroad caravans are ridiculously high). It also gives height for a hoist!

I don't think a 20 x 12 shed is expensive @ $22,000. I'd put it up myself over time probably. I just need to win tattslotto first!

Last week I spent a little time one evening trying to work on the shiny ****box .... first I spent 20minutes looking for the manifold gaskets (to change while the motor is out). then I spent 20 minutes looking for tools ... The **** everywhere was driving me insane. 20minutes working on the ****box .... 2 hours and 40minutes searching for stuff .... AAAAARrrrrrhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh,...... I figured I need to tidy up and get all the crap off the floor onto some shelves before I started trying to work on the car again.

I spotted these on the local facebook group.....

I pulled them down ... dragged them home. This has taken me 1 week on and off with the public holidays .... But now I have all the **** up off the floor.

I added a lot of extra shelves in ... I find you loose a heap of space as the gaps between the shelving is usually huge. So I made a heap of the shelving only about 40cm high (so you can place things like those old filing card trays into them)

Now I just need to clean off those benches and move them and I can get back to re-assembling the shiny ****box.

Did I mention I HATE bloody wood. Everytime you try to nail or screw the stuff together it splinters and splits. Metal is WAY better. I ended up making small angle brackets to hold it all together with screws. It was already all pre-split and nailed for me. Whoever originally built it sucks at woodwork nearly as much as me Its good to know I suck at woodwork almost as much as I suck at welding and fabrication though

Try welding those wooden benches and shelves with Woodcraft rods @ 110 amps.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

So a bloke called Shane spent 3 hours today excavating, building up the driveway, laying a pipe in the entrance and spreading road base and the results are excellent. The road base contains concrete and it's raining right now so I can almost hear that road base going harder.
George the Defender is spending his first night in his new home and seems happy - fits neatly.
A 10,000 litre water tank should arrive soon.
Then it's electrics. Meanwhile the first shelves are already going up. A dedicated steel welding bench is also planned.
I just need to add a lounge, a fridge for beers and a TV with aerial and all will be well with the world. OK show us your shed!!!!
