Others are from one we built a few years ago. There is still a top track but it is only used as a guide. The ground tracks are only 15mm high so forklift friendly ( if there is such a thing ) and double pinned to the slab every 300 mm or so.

Another job. This one had 9 sliders.

That is a really smart way of doing it ... Of course, you just make the slab slightly larger than it needs to be and place tracks on cement. I like the way you put a "verandah" over the top of the door slide area for weather/wind proofing as well. That is really well done!

Cutting corners on earthworks may not necessarily save you money, from our experience.
You may find the shed company has a preferred concreter and backhoe operator who are experienced in their shed work.
It is important to get the heights and levels right or the floor of the shed may crack or not drain properly.
In our case, a backhoe operator had generally levelled our area and done some other work for us. However, the preferred contractor was unhappy and insisted on bringing in a particular operator, who did a great job.
Once I saw him at work, I could see how good he was and why they insisted on using him. Actually, he was so good we have since had him back to construct a driveway for us.
BTW we chose Ranbuild for two garages with roller doors and a single carport. Total cost was about $20,000, not including power.

    Making Order Out of Chaos

    Hello All,

Last weekend I was up ladders and climbing up pallet shelving. The particleboard flooring for shelving was manoeuvred up a couple of weeks ago. This time I was drilling and screwing down the boards with tekscrews so the slippery sheets do not slide off the pallet rails while they are being loaded with parts. It is all part of an attempt at finally making order out of chaos within my shed.

Today, I started to sort stuff out to actually take place as known factors of what part or tool has been placed where. I also filled up the wheelie bin and also had a fire going too. It is a chance to have a cull.

    Kind regards
    Lionel

IME that sort of arrangement is a recipe for QLD style rorts.

Why are they 'preferred' and by whom? The shed supplier perchance?

    Any chance of kickbacks?

Get real Mick............. you want a shed, you're paying.

Not really tinfoil hat stuff DL. Businesses just develop good working relationships with sub contractors and it is as simple as that IME.

I used to be the exclusive carrier for a premium, steel frame kit home manufacturer. They had a list of preferred tradesmen, that they would recommend, obligation free. These tradies were familiar with the building system, that differed from timber framed homes. As the steel frames are made in a jig, they are always straight and square, the concreter has to be able to lay the slab level and square. Similarly there are differences for plumbers and sparkies.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

    Yeah, sorry, a bit OTT.

My sister was charged a small fortune by a 'recommended tradie' to have a shed put up.

Less than half the size of mine, but nearly double the quote I got for mine.

Her shed was not one from Stepho's.

It pays to do a fair bit of homework when thinking about a shed.

    For example:

Some 'recommended tradies' are not registered builders so that the owner has to register as the 'builder' (with all that entails) to get a legal sign off from a council upon completion.

In Vic you can be the named builder if there is no house on the property, without all the rigmarole.

In our case the recommended backhoe operater and concreter were all part of the fixed price, so no extra charge, but the shed company was confident about the quality of their work. Not all tradies are equal.
