Nutty is the word, the shed was within 2.8m of this tree, council calculated that I would have damaged the structural root zone of the tree, and therefore it must be removed.
I was willing to see how it went, but no.
I have to plant and maintain for 2 years , 4 indigenous plants with one being a canopy tree.

Its all about liability and insurance. The council would not be able to tell you it was okay to keep the tree so close to the shed because if the tree then fell on the shed you might sue the council for giving you advice to keep the tree, and the council's insurer might refuse to cover the council because it had advised you it was okay to keep the tree. Its safer for the council to cover itself by advising you to remove it. If you reject the council's advice and keep the tree and it falls on the shed you can't sue the council because it had advised you to remove the tree and you didnt follow its advice. The council's bum is covered.

Fair dos, think of the effect of the fumes on his Persian Rugs.
No, what he really needs is a Bobcat to chisel the corner off.
