Couldn't agree more.......my car has had so many repairs it's beyond a joke.......but, when she does what she's told and conquers that impossibly steep hill, that feral rock ledge, slippery mud bog of doom or fords that raging water crossing from hell....it's all worth while and I love my Land Rover It pains me to say it, but if and when the time comes to replace my trusty (sometimes) steed, I WILL be researching other marques to make sure I am getting bang for my buck. Bang for my buck is not what I have with my current Land Rover...................but still love it and the marque over all others

Mick do you think the reason you have to repair your LR is because you drive it up impossibly steep hills, feral rock ledges, mug bogs, and raging water crossing from hell. Pat

I used to think so - but I know a few people with different LR models who never take them off road - unfortunately they seem to have more issues than they should too.

But I'm in total agreement with Mick - we use them, they are very capable, but they are also rather problematical.

An interesting thread to read back over.

I think there is a real difference between being one eyed and an enthusiast.

Its surprising to see how many people have a problem with me putting Toyota axles, PAS and shortly suspension under my series ute..... well, because to be quite frank... it is because they are better and stronger and more durable. Just because I love Landys it doesn't mean that they get everything right, and thats something that is quite evident in the "What were thy thinking" thread. I think it is important to be logical before being emotive - and where that is particularly scarry when lacking is in political discussion.
    Cheers

IMHO some of the folks on this forum are one eyed, illogical folk who think anything between the axles involves the time lapsed between Guns N Roses albums.

For the record all Land Rovers have Jap, chinese and german bits in them, from the factory, some identical items also appear in Toyo and Nissan vehicles.

Grow up people, get your head out of your bums and realize there is life outside of the internet

And like I've posted before when I worked in the pits we had Nissans, tojo's and Defenders and I never fixed anything on the defenders that I didn't fix on the others. On the axle bit we replaced toyota axles and CV's so often we kept them as store stock. On reliability if you go through some of the other forums they are full of first time owners with problems and the seasoned ones come back with 'thats a known problem, they do that,it's common' etc so just to say it's an LR thing isn't right.I would just add that both my LR's are old, have alot of miles and give bugger all trouble, and both are stock except for LPG. I still love Land Rovers, I just cant handle Land Rover dealers in North QLD. If I was in Brisbane still, I would have 2 rovers. But seeing as I am in the realm of NQ and need my vehicle for work by hook or by crook, I now have a Ranger and a Focus.
Mind You even trying to buy a Land Rover up here is unbelievable, every car on their lot is obviously plated in gold and your trade in has obviously been infected with the plague. We have a dealer here trying to flog off a 99 diesel Freelander for $10500 as is with 100k on the clock as is and he told me an 08 Focus with 17k on it is only worth $11000. I politely suggested he was licking pixie juice and that maybe he might move a car once and a while if he actually priced vehicles accordingly. Most of the cars in his yard have been there for over a year
