Land Rover sales in The Middle east are crap for the same reason.
Well now they are begging TATA for GBP 1 billion to tide them over after sales have collapsed worldwide.

They came with a Rover Meteor petrol V12 which was developed from a Merlin sans superchargers. Not a nice engine. Anybody who worked on them in Centurion tanks loathed them.Quote:

Land Rover lost their market share in Australia in the late 60's through 70's when they refused to listen to the Australian operation, dealers, and customers, and refused to install a power train that would give on-road performance at least equal to a Toyosan. I was there, at Leyland Truck and Bus. Not just Land Rover either. Leyland refused to even consider the idea of putting enough horsepower in their heavy trucks to compete with the US power trains who were then offering 400+ horsepower in a prime mover whilst Leyland's best was 318 in the Crusader and 290 in the Marathon. The Scammell Contractor had a by then obsolete Cummins 335 but were too slow and heavy to sell in any but a specialist heavy haulage market.Quote:

So much nonsense is spouted by people who pretend to know a huge amount and in reality have little or no experience of any of the modern stuff.
There are obviosuly exceptions, Brian for instance who has had issues, but nowdays with easyily available diagnostic tools I would happily take a td5,6, v6, or v8 anywhere.
I would say that 95 times out of 100 that you may have problems they would be mechanical anyway.
Its the one that holds the oil pump drive gear on. There was an issue early in production where the loctite was missed. It has probably been checked by now but its pretty easy to do.Quote:
