I hear ya Stevo. It seems far-fetched to me although I suppose not impossible. They would, if they exist here, be very cryptic, making real proof difficult to obtain. On the other hand, such an efficient predator would have such an abundance of available food here (they wouldn't eat carrion, by the way) in the absence of any other similarly large, efficient predators that I would have thought that upon its introduction here, there would be a population explosion. This being the case, there would be regular, credible sightings throughout the Australian bush in the same way that feral cats are often seen. Every other introduced animal I can think of, upon its introduction to this country, has undergone a massive initial increase in its abundance and distribution. So basically...I'm inclined not to believe it.
