I think my spelling may be better than some other people on this forum, but i would give a lot to have the knowledge that others on this forum have about landies, knowledge that takes years and years to build up.

It depends on which way you look at it, we are all here with land rovers as the common denominator after all.

There are times, however, when it doesn't get the story across.

There are plenty of ways in which incorrect spelling can give a completely different message.

The student who wrote that some natives in Africa had coarse mating on the floor of their huts had apparently intended to comment on the furnishings, not on their sexual proclivities.

Another student attempted to comment on the lack of space on the stage of the school hall and the danger of getting entangled in the curtains. You can imagine the teacher's alarm when he read the student's assertion that if you stepped too far back on the stage you could get raped in the curtains.

I trust you are joking when you suggest that the only way to attempt to improve a child's spelling is to stifle their creativity and ridicule them.

it easy thats what keywords are for....try being creative like the person that misspelt.

how do you find something on this forum and you have no idea what its called? that would be no different from someone not spelling it correctly the answer is to put words in that relate and are likely to have been put in the thread by someone posting an answer

    PC gone mad.

Well we have pretty much got rid of competive sport so that we don't have losers, just people doing very well because they took part.

The object of teaching should never be to ridicule. Whether it be spelling, grammar or the thermodynamic principles of turbo diesel tuning.

As this thread has shown there are a multitude of opinions on the importance of spelling, grammar and punctuation. But ignoring it doesn't make it any better.

As a person whose native language is not English I find that there are many traps in the written form of this language. It makes it hard for kids and adults to learn how to spell, read and pronounce words that are spelt the same yet spoken differently depending on context or tense. It certainly doesn't make it any easier if everyone spells words differently everytime they use them.

We all have our own issues to deal with and spelling is one of mine as I have difficulties with it, it does not upset me to see incorrect spelling by those that are not able to for whatever reason. But what does get me is people who deliberately go out and bastardise the language as others have mentioned a few forms of this. SMS text and L33t on full qwerty keyboards, there is just no excuse.

    Smile and keep Land Rovering
