    and one of my favourites:

Things are not what they appear to be: nor are they otherwise.
    Surangama Sutra

and one from part of the previous Brains Trust in the US:

"Reports that say something hasn't happened are always interesting to me, because as we know, there are known knowns; there are things we know we know, we also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns -- the ones we don't know we don't know."

My father drew my attention to that one. I am embarrassed to admit that it was a pretty accurate description of my youthful arrogance.
The ONLY quote that has EVER made a difference to my life, was when I failed year 10, going nowhere fast, was when my old man said to me "keep going like you are and you'll just end up like your scumbag brother you hate so much"....knowing family history helps but you get the idea

He was right and it made the world of difference

I haven't checked which of the many versions of the Bible contains the following quotes, but it seems there are several automotive references in the Bible. Most of them of course refer to American models.
Some folks like to use the Bible as a basis for making decisions. If you are one of those folks, here are some Bible guidelines for consideration the next time you are shopping for a car...

    • It seems that our original ancestors tooled around in an old Plymouth because the Bible says that God drove Adam and Eve out of the Garden of Eden in a Fury.
    • Psalm 83 indicates that the Almighty owned at least two cars -- a Pontiac and a Geo. The passage urges the Lord to "pursue your enemies with your Tempest and terrify them with your Storm."
    • Perhaps Moses favored Dodge pickup trucks, because his followers are instructed not to go up a mountain "until the Ram's horn sounds a long blast."
    • No doubt Moses used his truck for work, but when he went cruising, he did so in a flashy sportscar, as evidenced by a Bible passage declaring that "the roar of Moses' Triumph is heard in the hills."
    • Moses' protégé, Joshua, also drove a Triumph -- but Joshua's Triumph had a hole in its muffler because the Bible says, "Joshua's Triumph was heard throughout the land."
    • Some scholars insist that Jesus drove a Honda but didn't like to talk about it. As proof, they cite a verse in St. John's gospel where Christ tells the crowd, "For I did not speak of my own Accord..."
    • Following the Master's lead, the Apostles car-pooled in a Honda, for the Bible says, "The Apostles were in one Accord."

After the well known photo of Winston Churchill with cigar and Landie:
"… anything that was good enough for the stoutest of stout bulldogs is certainly good enough for me. & if you are going to complain that a Landrover has been left behind by more up to date designs, go & buy that piece of Jap plastic, it probably has a special hook in the cabin to hang your handbag from."

you read through that site went past

Yes yes yes, you can go & buy something with a V hemi cross flow head Okie Kokie 2000 thousand thingy engine, take it down to the custom shop & spend squillions getting some cross country capability bolted onto it … or you can buy a Landie, drive out of the showroom & tackle just about any terrain in the world in its OEM specification. The biggest limitation to a Landrover’s cross country capability is the driver’s skill … & of course how brave he (or she) is feeling.
and you didnt put that post up?

    or

Of course, only some lily livered liberal journo could come up with a strap line like “A Landrover makes it through the flood”. It’s a Landrover you utter nanger & just as importantly, it is being piloted by little Mrs Aggression herself – trust me when I say that that particular combination would make clean through the very Gates of Hades & back again … without even having to engage the diff lock.
