Thread: Got an engine stand, got an engine... now how the banana do I put them together?!

    The first two pics are of the 2 litre with nuts and bolts - the third is the V8 with cheap bolts screwed into the bell housing holes. Both engines have common hardware size thread sizes.

    you have 2 options.

    1. mount it to the ring gear housing, which is also the bit that holds the startermotor and hides the flywheel

    2. remove the flywheel and the ring gear housing and the flywheel and mount it up to the bolts that normally retain the ring gear housing.

    either way sit the engine fairly low in the stand, the balance point is about 1/2 the radius of the flywheel up from the center of the crank..

    "Ring Gear Housing" - so thats what it is actually called. Thanks Dave - I will put it as centred as poss.

    I've always known it as the flywheel housing.

    The ring gear is only a component of the flywheel and on some Land Rover flywheels the ring gear is cut on the side as the flywheel is machined.
