The truck at Ladybower? Your Defender? Ladybower dam? Went there on a school excursion many years ago
Yes NM,our truck at Ladybower res on the day we took del.

First dam to be built was Howden dam around 1912 then Derwent dam and finally Ladybower completed in 1946 the valve being opened by King George, both Derwent village along with Derwent Hall built by Henry Ballguy in the 17th century(he was often seen wondering about the estate looking like a farm labourer) were submerged below the waters finally Ashopton village was submerged along with the old coaching inn.

At a time of low water you can see the some of the remains of Derwent Hall and garden walls and the chuch yard incl the entrance gate all the bodies were reinterned at Bamford Church yard a few miles a way, nothing is left of Ashopton village due to silt build up.

In WW2 a girls school was sent to Derwent Hall to carry on there studies avoiding the bombing of Sheffield were there school was located.

Hope this jogs some memories NM.

ps the Dambuster Squadron (617)practiced some of there low level runs at Derwent water at 60" above the water, one of the pilots Mawdsley came from Coombs in Derbyshire.

I was absolutely horrified last time went to the UK that I couldn't take knitting on the plane ... sometimes take it on the train, but it's such a pain trying to knit in close quarters, so to speak, especially when doing cable ... plus all the other crap I take with me. I won't tell you a phase I went through regarding train travel & the fantasies I had with what I could do with my knitting needles.

Anyway ... getting back on topic, sort of, my brother always takes the pee out of me, says I'm like a homeless woman cause I carry so much stuff. Problem is, it's so damn cold when I leave here in the mornings, but by the afternoon coming home it's about 15 degrees warmer. The train's so cold in winter, you have to take blankets & all sorts ...

    Can't stand the cold

How funny ... when I visited my sick friend in Bathurst, I nearly fell over laughing, apart from the array of half restored old Indian bikes in various rooms in his house, he's got an old phone booth, looked just like the Tardis, but was green

And people have the nerve to say engineers have no imagination
