In shorts. Heavy fine, kiss or a rub.
The touching part seems to happen anyway.
I have not yet heard of any person not being suggested a bribe would get then off the hook.
Revenue? Off course and it is tax free for them.

Seeing police with speed measuring eqpt. is rare on the Gt. Western Hwy between Emu Plains and Mt. Vic as there are very few places they can set up with safety. Generally, I don't worry about the police except in a few well known spots where they can set up.

In Emu Plains, the the HWP hides behind the bushes on the west-going on-ramp to the M4. I see him as I pass him going to work. They catch the drivers who are still slowing from the 110km/h section to the 90km/h section.
Yup, got done in a similar fashion on Princess Hwy, where the section turns from a 110km/h zone to an 80km/h zone. The policeman clocked me going somewhat over the speed limit with a hand held, and managed to get into his car, catch up with me () and pull me over just 400m after the 80km/h sign (I checked as soon as he finished writing out the fine )

The most likely place he was hiding was a little "dirt track" that's several meters long (made by his colleagues camping at the spot, no doubt) that was about 10m from the road sign.

And yes, I had to pay the fine. Luckily I was on a SA licence at the time, otherwise I would have been disqualified from driving for 3 months for that little excursion!!

Some other countries... lol, and South Australia!

I've seen the weelie bin cam on East Avenue (between Grange and Port Rds) on more than one occasion.

I believe SA police own two of these units and use them on streets where they can't inconspicuosly park their fine-mobil's. Never mind the security guard sitting on the fence, having a smoke and reading the paper!!

    Cheers

I just loaded Google Maps and then Streetview. The cops were located in the 70km/h zone just before the 60km/h zone.

    See faulconbridge - Google Maps

The cops were up the laneway just to the front left of the semi. You can see where the 60km/h zone starts. The location where the cops were is up high, well above the traffic. That laneway comes down a hill to the highway. That laneway which is an access to a couple of houses doesn't appear in the maps or street directory.

In this view, you can see the lane to the left and the 60km/h signs ahead. If you rotate StreetView, you'll see how the lane rises above the highway.

Raises the question of going from an area of increasing speed limits to decreasing speeds limits, police seem to adopt double standards here too.

I was told that going to an area of a lower speed limit, you need to decrease your speed well before you approach the sign (almost as soon as you can see it).

When going to an area of a higher speed limit, you can't increase your speed until you pass the sign...

    Any truth?

Depends on if there are weelie bins beside the road or not

    What is the question?

You have to comply with the posted limit.
The new limit applies at the sign. Not before the sign, not 300 metres after the sign.

Therefore when the limit is going to increase, you can't exceed the current speed limit. That means any increase in speed has to occur after the limit change.

When the speed limit is going to decrease you have to be going at the new lower limit before you enter the new speed zone, therefore the speed decrease has to occur while in the higher speed limit zone.

LOL. Yes, that was the question. (Where does it apply? At the sign it seems)

Yep...you have the thickness of the sign to achieve the posted speed limit.

Bearing in mind that the posted limit is just that... a LIMIT not a target!

I got booked going out to Crescent head in NSW some years ago when the sign posts had been changed. It was an 100km zone when i went out there in the morning and an 80km zone when i came back several hours later. There were no new signs they just swapped the advisory sign on the post overand extended the 80km zone out another few Kms.Our friends in the highway patrol were out there that very afternoon booking a large percentage of the locals who were heading home from work. There had been no advertising of a speed zone change in any media format. If thats not revenue raising then what is.Yet they wonder why a lot of people have no tolerance for them or their practices.I have always taught my kids to trust the police but this makes it hard.
