Just thought I'd share this - our company has been heavily involved in this job. Around 5 weeks ago trains were running at ground level across these 3 streets - which are one after the other on this line for those that don't know. In 37 days, they stopped the trains, ripped up the tracks, dug down and under the 3 roads - all without stopping traffic - re laid the tracks, installed 2 new below ground stations, all new overheads and signalling. The trains are now running and one of the new stations are open - the other one opens at the end of this month. There is still a lot of finishing off to do but what a monumental effort. There's another 40 odd crossings going this way over the next 4 years but this is the first triple crossing removal of the project and was delivered on time - even in a very wet Melbourne Winter.

They are not in that big of a hurry at the Bayswater crossing. Might need time lapse photography to see any advancement. The other option that they are doing at Thompson rd Cranbourne is the road over the the rail line as in a bridge. Due to a very high water table. Apparently cheaper than submersible trains.

I compare this with one locally I watched, where a single track railway line was moved away from an intersection with the Newell Highway, so that a B-double would fit between the railway level crossing and the intersection.

Sounds like a simple job - but it took about nine months!
