Just about every softroader comes in a diesel version of similar capacity/performance these days (I think he said he wanted a petrol anyway). If off-road ability and towing capacity are important, a softroader wouldnt be on my shopping list, regardless of the relative merits of each.

There's nothing in its class that compares and I'm not being biased, I looked hard before I bought mine. Believe it or not some people don't want to pay another 15K for a more capable off road vehicle. For many people the FL2 does a lot of things really well. I spend a lot of time in traffic where leather seats, climate control and economy are appreciated, but on the weekend a blast down the beach or getting to that nice camping spot is often required and it can do this too. Sometimes I need to tow over ton to the tip and again it does this with no problems. They are safe, versatile, reliable and capable and suit many people's lifestyle. LR creates vehicles that are best in class and the FL2 is no exception. It may not suit you but that doesn't mean everyone should stay away from them.

Yeah Robert - I just dropped my Fender off for some work at the dealer - they loaned me another Freelander - I really like the Diesel. Go for it.

Money talks, people always go the cheap option and then find that you get nothing for it and after they add all the extra's that the FL2 has as standard they are paying just as much. All the other vehicles have cheaper list prices but that is to get buyers in the door, the FL2 is alot of vehicle for the money. There is plenty of customers of other makes that could write damning articles on their problems too. I dont think theres anything else in the FL2's class period.
as a standard vehicle it pretty much stands by itself.

and this off-road thing always makes me giggle,,,
what I consider offroad is not what you or most people think of,, people that crawl over rocks call it off road racing, People that tour the outback for weeks on end call that off road,, some people think jumping a curb at woolies is off road,,

    so,,
which of these do YOU think is the true offroad vehicle??
