Volvo C303s are a very easy conversion but they are becoming scarce.

You would have to get them sent over on a boat these days. Seems to be a few around in Malaysia by the looks of some 4X4s over there.

AFAIK, Malaysia has been pretty much cleaned out of readily available Volvo portals in the desirable 6:1 ratio for several years now.

Has anyone ever tried the marks 4x4 adapters Nissan portals on a RRC?
I understand you would end up around $20k after install and diff purchase

Would Volvo be the go? if so where would one start to find them these days? What could one expect to pay for a set of Volvo's?

Trailcraft,in Sydney used to do some unimog mods I've heard, but i understand Volvo's are the go due to suitability.

That hard part with the mogs is just that the front diff centre is on the wrong side isn't it???. There are companies in the US who will sell you bits to sort that out if you have the $$$.

been, done and gone...........Maxi Drive made and sold bolt on portal boxes for rovers. There are a few (disco 1, defenders) that have been engineered in oz with these.

they gave 123mm of drop, were only 85mm wide. 4 gear design. Used stock rover brakes.

Bill Larman made his own from a bunch of Land Rover parts and some home made fabrication and lathe work. Also made an underdrive unit using planetary gears from a Jeep transmission and an overdrive splitter from an LT95 gearbox for his Land Rover shown below.

Most of us only dream of what Bill executes.

Edit: Bill fitted Volvo portals to the 110 shown on the right in the pic below.
