Well, I am afraid stopping WW3 is very naive and an absolute load of BS. You obviously believe all of the propoganda and spin his PR people put out.

Could not agree more. i have worked with many americans in a number of countries including the former CIS. but i would like to add, the younger yanks seem to be a bit more questioning and open minded with the older ( reds under the beds) were impossible to work with. many got sent home some went a bit native and a few had a really bad day.
i have more hope for the average yank today than i did 20 years ago. Hovers " UNAmerican" influence has long faded with the majority thankfully.
Exactly. I was going to say it has much more to say about what that NPP has become than anything else.
I have to disagree with that. He is spending us into oblivion while running the printing presses at the mints around the clock. When you find your family budget crashing in around you, what do you do? Go take out a couple more credit cards and max them out to the tune of half your annual salary?! And I can't wait to see how much the "budget-neutral healthcare plan" ends up sapping us for....
You guessed it...I didn't vote for Obama and don't hold him in very high esteem. I didn't vote for McCain either since he was pretty much the same.
People, like water, tend to take the path of least resistance. Make it easy to survive as a poor person and you'll have more poor people.
There will always be poor among us, but the poor here are the richest poor the world has ever known. What's embarrassing about it is the billions and billions of dollars the gubmint dumps at the "poverty problem" and the absolutely ZERO effect any of it has had on the problem. All it has done is made for a very entrenched bureaucracy. THAT's where the money is going.
I spent 10 days in Bangladesh. You want to see poor, sick and impoverished people? Try visiting Dhaka sometime. Holy cow!
You have me in FULL agreement with you there, dullbird! Living in a nation with so large an economy I think tends to lessen the effects the rest of the world has on us. So there's little need, most think, to really learn what's going on outside. And don't get me started on the gubmint school system and how pathetic a job they're doing! Sheesh.....
I lived in Taiwan for 3-1/2 years, hold a bachelor's degree in Asian studies and have traveled to 14 different countries, many of them several times, over the past 12 years for work.
I like our past president only a wee bit more than the present one. I haven't voted the two major parties in a decade because they're all leading us down the same sad path. I usually vote the Libertarian party, which believes in the American Founding Fathers' ideals of what gubmint is all about--an extension of the rights of We the People loaned to the government in order to protect our Natural Rights, such as those of Life, Liberty and Happiness (e.g., "Property"). As regards the Federal Government, the powers we have loaned them are clearly spelled out in the Constitution, which the 545 people in power in Washington continually and increasingly ignore.
I would seriously consider moving my family to another country, but there unfortunately is no other that offers the level of freedom that America still does. Obama and his ilk want to tear that freedom down. In other ways, Bush did the same. I am a fan of neither man because neither had the honor or integrity to honor and obey the Constitution to which they swore an oath of allegiance.
All I ask or expect from my government is to obey the rule of law, which is our Constitution. That is all I ask.
All I ask of my fellow man is to leave me to do what I wish so long as it does no harm to them as I leave them to do what they wish. If they need help, come ask and their need will be evaluated, and if verified to be true need, they will be given help with a loving heart. Through me or through my church, or pretty much any other church in the land. And if I ever need help and cannot get through it on my own, I will honor you by asking for your help rather than using the force of government to take it from you.
That's where I'm coming from. Am I your typical Yank? My way of thinking is a LOT more common than most believe.
Hey, maybe the next Nobel Peace Prize will go to me?! Ya think?!?! HA!
Cheers, mates...... https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/im...009/12/298.jpg
In comparison to many previous US presidents, he's a breath of fresh air. Big business in the US has been unchecked in their quest to increase profits for far too long, both domestically and abroad.
Billions are pumped into the military-industrial complex while basic education, health care and social security are crumbling at the seams. For a country of their resources, that's shameful.
The US foreign policy is even worse. For the last 60 years it's been creating a global empire through economic manipulation and covert action to allow big corporates to exploit indigenous populations and their natural resources in the third world - causing untold suffering in the process. Without going into details, Latin America, Middle East, Africa & SE Asia are full of examples of such exploitation. The last 20 years (since the collapse of the Soviet empire) has gotten worse, with their foreign policy being overtly militaristic with increasing regularity.
As far as I can tell, Obama appears to be trying to reverse the process (at least the overt militaristic part), by promoting multilateral negotiations over direct military action. Yes, its a baby step, but its a step in the right direction. His domestic policies directed at reducing reliance on fossil fuels and improving the health care system to benefit people, rather than pharmaceutical and insurance industries are steps in the right direction too.
Unfortunately, changing US policy, foreign or domestic takes a lot more than one man. It's a difficult task, made even more difficult by the facts that:
a.) Individuals / corporations / industries with a lot of power & influence stand to lose from his proposed policies
b.) The majority of US citizens are oblivious to what goes on outside of the US and their opinion is easily swayed by the media (which often represent the interests of the elite which stand to lose from Obama's politics)
In that context, his receiving the Nobel Peace Prize as an encouragement, rather than recognition of achievement makes sense, especally in light of
John's earlier post:
Yours truly, (expecting to get flamed based on some previous posts) :rocket:
