Yep - looks like a Marshall bodied Series III Ambulance to me. Used by the poms and the Dutch so his claim is likely true.
I would love to get my hands on one of them...
Great looking bit of kit!
Look who turned up at the close of last Monday's Brisbane LR meeting.
Eric and his girlfriend had just cleared customs in Brisbane after arriving on some ship.
This jollopy rolls in, with the occupants declaring "We here for the club meeting. Just in from Germany"
Eric had a suit job in Germany with corporate America and drove an Audi. With the global downturn, he decided to go touring in Oz for a year, until things improve.
The club members gave his truck the once over.
Eric claims the ex - ambulance defender is from the Dutch army and did a tour of duty in the Fauklands War.
Just a few of the mods I noticed:
LPG
Reversing camera
Heater installed - won't need that in QLD
Bed and sink, cupboards in back
Sand boards on the side act as fold down tables
Spot lights on the front, turn with the steering
Engine cranking arm stores on the bullbar
2.2+ motor petrol I think (disco driver)
Servo system added, so his girlfriend could operate the brakes
Club members took some happy snaps, handed out stickers and had a chat with the crew.
Eric has spent a heap of time on mods, and other than a bit of snow, has never been offroad. Welcome to Oz.
We gave him some tips on Sand driving as he is heading to Fraser Island.
If you see these guys around say hi. I told Eric to get on the forum if he needs any help, so keep an eye out guys.

an interesting question!!!
a fair number of the original 1947 model are still running and so really we have no idea how long they will last, obviously later models have later adaptations to assist in its life being lengthened but........
Oh...you didnt mean the car, you meant the tourists.....
sorry!

They have the same Moto-Lita steering wheel that I run on my Cobra. That's a nice touch, very classy.
Cheers
