Unhappy About to lose my hero .

Hi Guys . Just needed to talk for a bit . I had a phone call to say the my Pop ( grandpa ) was in hospital and was on his last legs . So i dropped everything and went to see him and when i got there he looked frail and weak and a shadow of his former self . As a kid i idolized this man ( still do ) cos he would bend over backwards to do anything for me and spend endless time with me . I would sit for hours and listen to his stories about when he was a truck driver and when he was in the army .
But now he can just lay there and just breathe . Was told by the nurse that they had done everything they could for him but have stopped the medication and will pass on maybe later tonight or tomorrow . He has fluid on his lungs with a blood colt in one . His kidneys have shut done and he has pneumonia .

To see such a strong man and strong willed man to fall down like this has ripped a big hole in my chest . He has and always be the biggest influence in my life and i'm not looking forward to a phone call tonight or tomorrow . If i could give him my life i would do it in a heart beat but as they say all good things must come to an end .

I love you Pop and you will never be forgotten .

Not a nice time but there are all the memories that you have. they are the true man not the one in the hospital bed now.

Had the same thing with my Dad back in June.

    Keep the chin up mate.
    Cheers, Dale

Any words I say will not sooth the pain, but remember the good times.

I remember the day my Pop passed on. He made it to 81, had a long full life, fought for his country, raised a good family and looked after me almost everyday when i was a kid and my parents where working. I still think about him all the time and smile, i swear he taught me more than 4 years of trade school....

    Hi,

Sad but that's what happens to even the best of us.

I was much closer to my (maternal) grandfather than my own father.

GF was a bit of a jack of all trades including dam building in SW NSW using horses, pioneering truck freight with Thornycrofts etc through Vic and NSW, all sorts of farming, engineering workshop in Minyip that did everything from crank grinds to pinstripes, diesel engineer, fitter and turner, sh*t stirrer, mentor for me.

Miss him a lot but what he taught me has lessened the loss and others benefit.

And I gave the eulogy at the funeral. He was the greatest influence on my life, he was by no means perfect but he taught me how to work and deal with issues.
