Get yourself a decent preamp and you will be amazed. I have a Graham Slee Communicator Gram Amp 2. Your record deck feeds into this and this then goes to your main amp. You will never listen to a cd again.

oh dear... do we need an audiophile section now? *lol*

It seems many of you guys like the PRAT of lp's and 78's.... how many have tube amps though?

I've got hundreds of records of varying speeds, including wax cylinders! but currently no turntable of any form.

I've made my own preamps, power amps, speakers etc over the years - check out www.aksaonline.com as an example of an aussie kit amp bloke who builds stuff that competes at the cutting edge for not much more than mass market pricing...

That said, my hearing (and I'm sure most of you guys that are over about 30, even more so for defender or 110 drivers!) aint what it used to be so I'm sure there is an element of nostalgia there more than having a golden ear...

I had a box of LP's go missing in one of my moves... but haven't had a player for years though anyway. Do miss the sound though.

So with those usb players... how's the mp3 sound once done???

    Old records

I started to buy records when I first left school in the 70's and have a big collection and they all still have the price tags on them, between $4.99 and $6.99 each, have the full collection of Led Zeppelin and Pink Flord, I have a new sound system in the shed but you can't conect a turntable to it so I had to set up my old stero system as well, I have a old mate that still like to come around for a few beers and listen to all my old records but the old amp is just about had it, have to give it a good thump every so often to make the left speaker work, but I think some of the neighbours get a bit upset as well , the more beers we have the louder it gets, but its so good workin on the old Norton playing the old records with a few beers, life is so good...
