    Has anyone done this??

    Hey guys and gals....

I was just wondering if it was possible to transfer a rear diff from a defender into a S1 Disco??

    Has anyone done this??

    Is it difficult?

    Cheers

If you mean the complete rear axle assembly, quite possible; there will be a few problems but nothing insurmountable. (I assume you mean a 110 Defender - in the unlikely event you mean a 90, very easy). Later Defenders with the Rover diff would be simpler, as the diff centre only could be swapped.

I am not too sure why you would want to unless needing the more robust diff for advanced offroading.

I don't mean to teach you to suck eggs, but make sure the front and rear ratios are the same.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

I know a bloke in Townsville fitted a Salisbury into the rear of a Rangie some years ago.

I want the strength of the Sailsbury.. And of course I would make sure the ratios are the same, thanks. Was just wondering how easy this would be.. Seems to make sense. I am trying to set up the old girl for touring. The bigger rear diff would be an advantage..

Yeah it's been done, Disco Steve had a salisbury in the rear of his rangie, i don't think there would be to much involved. you'd want some decent size tyres though, the salisbury's are a lot stronger than the standard rover diffs but they are so flippin big they seem to drag alot out bush
Gets quite annoying but i spose you can just go bigger tyres...

The P38 centre wont easily go into a Rover housing. The CW is in a different spot and it doesn't align with the CW slot in the Rover axle, and the diameter of the hole the pass the diff through is also smaller on the Rover axle. It would be easier to swap the whole housing.
