Gday All, I hope my poor camera use and lack of finding something to measure these against that people can relate to do these 2 prawns justice..The packs we send into the Japanese supermarkets havea prawn wieght range of between 60grams to 90grams and these are the biggest size we catch, very rare to see prawns that big in Aussie shops. Well these 2 went 130grams and 136grams, so some lucky japanese housewife will be happy. The tape measure is set at 12".Hope they do them justice
Like I say hope these picture can relate the size of these 2 prawns

Used to get them like that (occasionally), when I unloaded boats at the Iluka co-op. Topaz was a good one, 20 tonne of processed whiting straight into the truck.

Yes Mick, its the sad case of prawns this size not being seen in to many places in Aus, we pack them in a 1.5kg pack straight into the supermarkets in japan.Worse thing is the price is proberly less than most people are going to pay for imported or farmed prawns this christmas.Sure, there's no shortage of prawns available here....but we don't see many of THAT size for sale!

Of course if you happen to be in Darwin in december you can buy them direct from me from the Boat, but like many others who buy from me it works out expensive when you start to frieght stuff around this great country.
Atleast in sampson you can get some locally caught stuff so you are in front there.

Seriously, I've read your previous posts with interest in regard to the situation that has been foisted upon yourself and others by the govt stipulations and trade conditions. You and your colleagues have my sympathy. Unfortunately it is also applying to the lobster fishermen (well, all professional fishermen actually) in this state as well and there are countless people going to the wall due to it.
For an Australian govt, they do a damned good job of looking after other countries interests before considering their own.
And we are fast being reduced to utilising the second rate and unhealthy products of those same countries that are sending their rubbish to us.

Thanks Mick, and yes I know about the Lobster guy's a sad state of affairs but believe me it's nothing compared to what we are all going to face when Garrett and his clowns push thru the Marine Park area's. the south east has already got some but the plan is for total coverage of the aust coastline, with many area's no-go zone to any type of fishing activity, beit commercial or recreational, so the days of going out in the tinnie and chucking in a line are fast coming to a end of where you choose to do so.
The 1 for the west coast especially your area is a shocker.
I know the legal challange we are looking at is big $$$ as we stand to loose 85% of our fishing grounds.BE AWARE ITS COMING
Anyway enjoy as much local seafood as you can cause its going to get rarer.
