    During the trials of the TD5, Landrover ran them on aviation turbine fuel to simulate harsh conditions (AVTUR isn't as oily as diesel). The engine didn't have a problem. It went so well that the US special forces bought some so they could run them without having to ship in diesel.

    I waited for 13 weeks for a new instrument cluster on our 2008 Ford Focus just after we bought it and it took 4 weeks to get hail damage repaired on our 2005 Suzuki Swift as they had to order four new roofs until one came in that was not already damaged.

    Luckily on the disco I can usually get parts overnight if needed or within a couple of days.

    Our aircraft tug runs solely on JetA1 (slops from the daily fuel drains)
    An unanmed staff member from a previous company I worked for ran his Hilux soley on JetA1 slops and a dash of 2 stroke for nearly 4 years and some 250k.
    Using Jet fuel is quite common in remote parts when the diesul runs out or wasnt delivered. Same with AVGAS for the petrol travellers.

    I doubt the longivity of some donks or the fuel system running on straight Jet fuel, though I think common rail systems would probably last longer than their earlier counterparts.

    I have never owned a vehicle under warranty, I have a large diesel direct injection which I think could do very well with extra lube. As for warranty it says on the site mentioned that 2 stroke forms a complete emusification with the diesel and cannot be detected. It recommended 1:200. I dont think it would be a problem.

    The thing is, if you decide to keep a brand new car for 20 years and the warranty is 3 yrs, you would want to look after it for the long term. If you change your car over every 5 yrs then its all about the warranty and who gives a stuff if the engine wears fast or slow becuse its not your problem.

    by eye or by fuel test which seems to be able to pick up on the smallest of bacteria and contaminants.
    Our Land Rover does not leak oil! it just marks its territory.......

    ummm aviation turbine fuel is simply kerosene with some additives to prevent fungal growth taking place in the big dark tank. I think it would be very expensive to run your car on with a dash of 2 stroke oil though. anyone know the current price of kero/litre? I remember a few guys in the darling downs area running their fordson tractors on "contaminated" avtur. sometimes we had to do wing changes on the pilatus porters on the run and there would tewnty or thirty 20litre drums from the defuel there for anyone to take home.

    the common rail system runs under such high pressures that any lose in lubrication ie water, the pump and injectors have a very short life by siezing.

    I would say the european cars have better filtration to detect such things and go into limp home as to minimize damage, filtration seams to be the problem with the toyotas as I have seen lots of toyotas with stuffed pumps and injectors and waiting ages for the parts.

    As some one said with detecting two stroke in the fuel, there is no way in the world you can hide the oil or any additive from a fuel test. there is a whole industry out there for testing fuels and oils in a labratory, I know of big ships and trucks that do it as part of maintenance.
