Good thread Schmierer LR at Singleton.
    Some interesting posts.
I spent holidays on an uncles farm in the 50,s. Wanted to be a farmer, left school went to Ag college, got a Dip AG, Travelled around Oz in a land rover 1967. Ringer at Yelvertoft near Mt Isa, Sinking dams Eneabba WA with an old D6. Went to PNG as a Stock Inspector with DASF. Built a ferro yacht in Kavieng, 8 yrs in Bougainville, sailed to Mooloolaba, Started an earthmoving business, sold and retired at 55 and moved out to the country. Enjoying every minute of it.

    Happy New Year to All

Always wanted to be a Pilot- rotary wing.

After school I did a roof plumbing apprenticeship.
than became a Dive instructor and travelled the world. (Red Sea-Yeah), did lots of photography at the time than worked as a photographer in local paper and couple of mags, went to earn more money in hospitality, worked way up and had severel restaurants and still had a bar here in SA and went back to achool and did my builders lic, project managers masters and now work as a project manager for a local builder doing a 4 story appartment block.
I love both and have also done about 4hrs flying in a R44 and 3 on a turbine(Jet-Ranger) that my mate here owns.
May still do it later to get full lic but am realistic that there is no money and no jobs.
I currently love my job and my family.

Things above ground every day is a good day.

    cheers

I honestly can't think of anything else I wanted to do. From an early age read 3 or 4 I so wanted a toy series 109 towing a caravan. (A model set that now is worth a lot of $$$) I did get one eventually, and now I am 42 and feel VERY fortunate to have ended up doing what I really all along was meant to be doing Working with all things Landrover

Along the way there was also a CertAg, Woolclassing, Assoc Dip Mech Eng, and a fair amount of different and interesting jobs including exploration drilling and stream sediment sampling both in the eastern goldfields and Pilbara WA, but where I am now I am very happy thanks!

    Great thread too.

I wanted to be a farmer, but ended up as a vet. Can pretty much turn my hand to anything - you learn a lot of stuff you wouldn't ever imagine needing to know as a vet. Started out as a dairy/equine vet, now I do 90% dogs, not that I'm complaining, most of the time I love my job.

Obsessed with films since I was a little kid, walked out of 2001 A Space Odyssey in a rage when I was seven.

Worked in kitchens when I was at school, about 32 hours a week for a good part of year 11 and 12, loved it.

Worked on film crews and made films for a bunch of years, woke up every day looking forward to going to work. Poor health and falling out of love with the job happened around the same time.

Went back to uni did an MA in film scriptwriting, now doing a doctorate in scriptwriting theory.

And in between, kitchens, food businesses, computers, renovating friend's house, fashion design with ex, manufactured film equipment.

If I win the lottery, I want a plane, a Beriev BE-103 [$350,000 second hand recently in the USA]. Know it will not go every-where that a Landrover can go, but lands in an interesting place, in an interesting way, where many other planes cannot land if you watch it on you-tube you will know what I mean [Have yet to work out how to link you-tube to AULRO].

Oh, you helicopter guys, I know your helicopters can go more places, but I have read how much fuel helicopters use. I would want something more affordable in fuel.
