    Defender 50th Anniversary Model

I would love a 50th Anniversary Defender 90, and I have been looking at a Japanese auction site with some on, I was wondering if anyone has tried to import a car from Japan, and if there was any pit falls or problems, and if you think it would be worthwhile, the prices seem to be a lot keener that the uk priced defenders

    Thanks Aussiebean

    G'day Aussie bean,
I recall a similar thread on importing Discoverys. From memory you aren't allowed by our government to import car built after 1987 that were available here.. The only way they can get the Discos in is to cut them in half - ie: parts only.

Not sure it is the same with Defenders - especially as the 90 wasn't here then - although I suspect it is.

google search for "Car importing" and you will find gov sites with lots of info.

Thanks for the info, I shall do some more research, But I do believe that the 50th Anniversary Defender 90 model was not available in Australia, so it could be possible!!

    Cheers

It's not that difficult to import vehicles from Japan if you go through the right contacts.

There's a 2002 Mazda RX7 Series 8 sitting next to my Disco in the shed that my young bloke imported not too long ago.

He went through some mob in Sydney who made all the arrangements, brought the vehicle into Australia, arranged for ADR compliance inspection and had 6 months NSW rego put on it. The young bloke was in Sydney when it was collected off the wharf.

He then trucked it across it to Perth - I took him down to pick it up and he drove it back here. Believe it or not - the hardest part of the whole process was getting it WA registered - but he did get that sorted eventually.
    Cheers .........

    Hey BM
Any chance of divulging the "right contacts"?????
I reckon a 90 instead of a P38a would be a better vehicle for swmbo. Then again,P38as are cheap in Japan too.

    Andrew,

I'll leave a message for my young bloke to let me know who he dealt with in Sydney. He's working on a minesite up at Agnew and only went back there yesterday, and with me flying back up north next week, I'm not likely to see him for a few weeks.

What I do remember is that it was a Japanese father & son business who apparently import a lot in from Japan (mainly souped up ricers).

As soon as I get some info from Shaun, I'll forward it on to you.

    Cheers ..... Brian
