Hi Everyone,
I confirm my first post in this thread from 15 Jun in that I have the in-car nav system and it is still crap! About 4 weeks ago, after considerable research and being told by everyone that it was sold out, I managed to source a VMS 500S nav system. About a week later I commenced a trip to Maryborough, Qld (from Sydney) to attend the Australian Caravan Club National Muster. I towed my new van weight about 3.2t fully loaded.
The car, van and the VMS 500S all performed flawlessly. At one point I had the VMS and the in-car nav system running at the same time for comparison. There was none as the VMS beat the in-car nav system hands down. It was really no contest. The VMS paid for itself a few times by giving me advance warning of speed cameras by both visual and audio means. I could not help but hear the screaming of the audio warning!
The VMS is reversing camera ready but the downside of is that that you have to use the VMS camera or at least it was not compatible with the reversing camera already fitted to my caravan.
The VMS is not cheap at $799 but it is fully featured and works a treat, especially the speed camera and 'over the speed limit' warnings. Incidentally I had the VMS and a UHF radio (GME remote mic type) hard wired without drilling holes in the dash. I would be happy to post pics of the fittings if I knew how to post pics. I would really be grateful if someone could either direct me how to post pics or PM me with very easy step-by-step instructions.
I hope this helps. If anyone wants any more info about the car, van and VMS please ask.
Cheers
George
