Well, the wife and I have just completed an around Oz trip in 4.5 months. The latter half with our 2 dogs (long story short - flew them from Brisbane to Perth for the return trip)

Camp setup 2 hrs West of Kathryn, beaut spot but too many flies.

Floyd has spent too much time in the back watching me drive. Looks like I have been made redundant as the designated driver.

Fanastic trip, acouple of D3 issues over the 31,000Ks. Hand brake mechanisn packed it in (fixed Alice Springs), Thermostat hose coupling split (fixed Geraldton.... could easily live there), a rear wheel alignment wayyy offf and scubbed the rubber down smooth before noticed and a new battery in Canberra after getting "special programs off" messages.

Other than that "what a tow vehicle" averaged 15 litres per 100k towing 2 ton. For those interested in the trip check out PJAT Journeys

I've found them to be fantastic on the road, sand and dry 4wding.
They bag quite well due to the higher sidewall.
I have had no sidewall issues, I have rear AC and the tyres just touch the front of the rear inner at full compression.
You must either have LLAMS or shortened rods fitted.
Acceptable but not fantastic in Mud and slippery conditions 4wding.
Tyre life probably about 30,000k or more depending on how low in tread depth you like to run! But this has not been easy conditions for the tyre.

These are not cheap tyres though, do you homework on the pricing.

Also they are oversize so beware of possible legal issues.
The spare can squeeze in if the heat shield and the tyre is deflated to nearly flat, then you must also carry another compressor to pump it back up in the bush.

    Now I too have a D3.

TDV6 2.7 , Feb 2007 SE with rear a/c and front park sensors 18" OEM wheels. No other mod's YET. 95,500 k's on the clock and it drives very nicely. I'm in the process of removing HF Radio, winch, etc from the D2 TD5 and then that will be for sale.

    Planned Accessories for D3:
    Dolium wheel carrier
    Long Ranger Tank
ARB Winch Bar with Tigers11 12,000lb winch
    Safari Snorkel
Traxide USI 160 controller with Optima D34 battery
    BB-6 17" mags (when D2 goes)

ZF steel pan and ZF Fluid should be home later today.

    Cheers John

    VIC HIGH COUNTRY TRIP

Between Christmas and New Year I took the family out and did an overnight trip from Thredbo down to Tom Groggin, across the Murray up to Davies High Plain, Charlies Creek and then back down to the Murray at the Poplars for lunch.

We then drove the Limestone Track to our over night camp on Limestone Creek. A lovely spot next to a small running creek and it was warm enough to encourage us into the cold water for a swim.

Beautiful night not too cold but enough to warrant a good fire and a few beers and some red over dinner.

Next day we tackled the Cobberas Track and MacFarlance Flat Track, out to Ingeegoodbee and then onto Suggan Buggan and out through the Barry Way and back to Thredbo.

There were some pretty good climbs and descents on the second day, nothing to worrying too much about or indeed troubling for the D3. There was one section on the Coberras that was signed as steep descent , my wife was a little concerned but I managed to get through with my marriage almost intact.

The photos below were taken close to the end of the Ingeegoodbee Track at a lookout that gave awesome views across the some of the terrain we had just traversed.

If you have not got down to this part of the counrty you must put it on your list. And a pretty standard D3 with A/T tyres will get you there and back without raising a sweat.

    George
