    BAS- Remap

I've recently installed the BAS -remap on my 2005 tdv6 d3.

LOADS of power, no smoke ( no more than before

The economy has got better by around 1 litre / 100km. BUT this is only achieved running on the freeway and not booting it. cruise control 100km/h.

still with prices of diesel that high, it makes me happy to have the extra range.

Can't trust the computer as its just a average anyway. Just did a trip down south and got 710kms off the tank, the average/computer said 7.9L. Pretty happy with that as the average speed was 114kms and the car was fully loaded to the roof.

It was actually the first time that I was able to fill up with 75L's.. with a whooping fuel bill of $115 bucks!

    Hi All, Well interesting thread!!!
    I read loads about remaps etc before I decided to get one and even then only because I really wanted better fuel economy whilst touring, given the number of accessories I have added to the vehicle, I was never really interested in the increase in power. Following advice from Pete at BAS I also installed an allisport intercooler, much larger unit. They also claim that the installation of their larger intercooler will give more power and better fuel economy.So by my way of thinking that should almost garantee better fuel economy.{and yes pete was aware of the installation of the intercooler}
Now after 5500k's I can confidently say that whilst the power increase is unquestionable and somewhat incredible!!! the fuel economy figures certainly don't apply to my rig!!!
I ran 2800k's with a knN oil soaked air filter and consistently returned about 8.5k's/l. Disappointed with this I emailed Pete and he suggested that changing back to an original paper air filter may help. I then ran 2200k's and returned exactly the same figures the only noteable difference was a slight drop in power.
All this was done at cruisin speeds of around 100-110k/hr. I did notice that driving with the cruise control on reduced fuel economy by a little , maybe .2k's/ltr.
This has been very disappointing considering that before the remap and with a heavier load, covering 500k's in one weekend I got 9.4k's/ltr.
Now to really add insult to injury the AC compressor packed it in and it is potentially possible that the larger intercooler may have aided it in it's demise. {refer to my other thread for details}.
    Just my 2c's worth ...
    cheers all

Thats interesting, I've had 4 cars now remapped and all with great performance increase and noticeable savings in fuel economy.

Don't get me wrong, if you put the boot it all the time the fuel goes down quick.

    Perhaps its the tune..?

    Hmmm !
    8.5K's/litre which is = 11.72ltrs/100Ks or 24.1 MPG
    9.4K's/litre which is = 11.3 ltrs/100Ks or 26.6 MPG
Not really that bad all things considered
I just did a trip to Yeagerup.Calcup and the summertime track in me TDV6 from Perth , say 330 Ks each way .using tank refill figures I did 12.9Ltr/100Ks on the way down at 115-120 on the cruise control ,and 10.1Ks/100ltrs on the way back at 105-110 on the cruise . It appears that that extra 10kph average speed has a great effect !!
NomadicD3 , did you have your EGR plugged , and a clean Map sensor ?

Dorko , what remap system do you use ?

Hey 400- Yes forgot to mention I have the EGR blanks installed but good point on the clean sensor , I will look into that.

Dorko-{great name btw }. Yes the tune is something that i am looking into gotta sort the AC issue first....Also the computer in these things are a little bemusing. At one point on the last trip the computer was saying average use 8.2k/ltr and total range was 726 yet on a differnt tank of fuel average fuel use was 9.1 and total range was 716??? Gave me a laugh at least

A friend has just mentioned that maybe I should get the odometer checked maybe i'm doing more k's than I think, apparently LR3's are known for being out by a ways.

I do intend to remap the car, if only to make the power/torque curves smoother. Just interesting that some people claim huge increase in economy, yet those that use a similar method to mine where you use a GPS to measure distance and then trickle fill till it's really full all seem to either match the original economy, or get a little worse. As has been pointed out, a trip computer is an 'average' device that's not really all that accurate.

Looks like BAS hand held module won't work for the D$ 2.7L.

Now that's interesting. I wonder what I'll have to do to get an ECU remap?

Very interested to read the comments re. the BAS and Autologic remaps as I was thinking of going with either on my RRS TDV6. Big question however is has anyone had a bad mechanical side effect from the extra torque. I tow a caravan and the extra grunt would come in handy but I'm a bit nervous at the additional strain on the drive-train, etc. Would appreciate some feedback.
