If the armrests are to low then just adjust them up, that is all I do.

Your correct though it is hard to put your seat belt on when they are down but it only takes 2 seconds to put them up or down so no biggy.

    cheers,

You cannot adjust the entire armrest - just the angle up or down. The pivot point where your elbow would be is too low - the cubby box is just right .

Same as the door side - the arm rests are too low but the window sill is just right.

I guess it is a case of some people love them - others not so much.

This is quite a depressing/encouraging post to read. I'm thinking about moving from the Defender to a D4. I desperately want a 3ltr but just Can't Afford It. I can barely scrape together (via debt) the coin to get a 2.7 with the $5000 () real iPod connectivity that I enjoy in my Defender and a reversing camera (about $75k on road for MY12).

I don't tow and I drive like a bit of a Nanna so I would really be fine in a 2.7 and I'm trying to come to terms with that. They told me $92 for the same in 3ltr, I can't do that. Sure it has other extras as well but none I'm particularly rapt about. Now I'm seeing some lower quotes for the 3ltr and reading about the new 8 speed gearbox on the 3 and I'm throwing the toys out of my pram.

Can some please tell me the 2.7 is fine for me?

2.7 is still a great car. No point going into too much debt over the power, just chip it

you should be able to pick up a D4 2.7L for some fruit for $80k and if you want base model then I'm think low $75k

Moving from a Defender, I would expect that either motor will seem like a Ferrari to you.

Honestly, even the 2.7 only has it's match within the LR range, in either the D4 or RRS models.

An advantage of the 2.7, is the ability to fit 17" rims, if more serious outback travel is in your plans. That also means cheaper and more available suitable tyres.

I have just driven both the 2.7 and the 3.0 and I currently drive a 4.0l V8 so was expecting the 2.7 to be a bit 'so so'. But no, it really went much better than I was expecting. Having said that, I'm probably going for the 3.0 myself, but I think you will be surprised at how good the 2.7 is.

As for an 8 speed in the discovery range any time soon, well I don't think LR are going to undermine sales of the RR that foolishly so don't chuck out all your toys yet.

It is happening on the MY2012 in the UK.

    Official LR doc:

Probably not in the 2.7L here. It does not exist in the UK market due to new euro emmissions regs; replaced by 210HP 3.0L.

I'm a power junkie from way back and drove both the 4.4 and 2.7TDI before purchasing my 2.7TDI. The 4.4 didn't perform that much better IMHO.
The 2.7TDI is a very good motor, it constantly surprises me how well it moves the lump that is the D3. I would love a 3.0 D4 but I didn't want to spend 90K on something (4WDs) that I may change my mind about in a few years.
You will love the 2.7 coming from a fender it is refined, economical and will eat a fender for breakfast.

    JamesH,

I consider myself a bit of a lead foot and after nearly 3 years of ownership and 50,000 km of driving have not once wanted for anything more from my 2.7 TDV6.

Now I have not driven the 3.0 lt and I am sure that it would be better again, but stick it in sports mode and with the low end torque you really do not need much more.

8 speed box might be worth the wait thought ?

The reality is that the limiting factor in driving any vehicle like this is that no matter how fast you go in a straight line you are still driving a 2.5 T 4wd so you have to slow it up in the bendy bits and you definately notice the weight when breaking.

I also drive a mini cooper (no not the S unfortunately) and the D3 eats that on the straights but is left for dead in the bends. I would like more power in the mini as it could handle it when things get fun, but no more in the D3.

For me if I move to a D4 it will be to the 2.7 and not the 3.0, not a $ issue just a practical issue and I am generally not that practical.

Also the rear parking sensors on the D3 are excellent, I actually prefer reverse parking the D3 over the mini, so unless you have a burning need for the rear camera (I have two young kids and an overly cautious wife but never had any issues) you would be better getting one much cheaper after market and save the $.

Not sure about the I-pod thing, I have an AUX port at the rear of the centre console that we plug the i-pod into and combined with a 12v power jack things are fine but we do have the 7 speaker Hi ICE I think.

As noted by ADMIRAL, the move from a defender to either option will be an exponential one.

Go the 2.7 lt, it sounds like it could save you some sleepless nights worrying about if you can afford the stretch and allow you to get out and enjoy it or spend so $ on accessories.

I think you wold find similar discounts being offer on the 2.7 as are being offered in the 3.0 anyway.

Long and the short of it, you would not be disappointed with the 2.7.

    Just my thoughts.

    George

Yes, I have seen this before. Can you point to the official LR doc it comes from because when talking to a LR dealer about an 8 speed Discovery in the near future, it is being denied.
