IMHO I'd be very careful not to go anywhere near $ stress for any car. Unless it is a collectable it will only cost you money in terms of depreciation, insurance, new car maintenance, servicing and especially a lot of worry about damaging it. The costs you incur driving away from the dealer where you immediately turn a new car into a used car puts you further behind straight away.

    It is the UK document.
    Prices in UK pounds.

As for Oz? LR oZ probably do not know their ass from their elbow anyway.
Or LR UK treating them like mushrooms?
There is a list of changes for Oz but they have not been told about the transmission.
I cannot see them doing a special for Oz with the 3.0L without the eight speed but as the 2.7 is special for Oz already I can see them keeping the six speed on that.

Yeah, I have all that common sense stuff going through my head right now and it's compelling. But my mortgage is really tiny by modern standards and there are no kids etc. It's really nice not to be stressed about debt.

But, on the other hand this is life, not a dress rehearsal. If not now for my first new car ever, then when? If not a Land Rover, then what? I'm about to turn 50 () You can't take it with you.

I've told myself to cogitate for a few months and see how I feel. Ive loved my Defender for so long, it's funny though, it's like a switch has gone off in my brain, and I've woken up wanting to move on.

By the way, do I owe someone an apology for the thread hijack? I guess I do Sorry.

I saw a doc yesterday when i ordered mine and in the All the D4 variants there is no mention of 8 speed. The HSE mentiones a 2 port USB , if this was the only important change to oz HSE models then an 8 speed must be less important to the consumer so I think we will only be seeing the 6 speed in my12

Do it JamesH, I have just done the same thing at 60 - first ever new car. There are no pockets in shrouds, and there could be nothing worse than lying on your final bed and realising that you hadn't spent all your money! Life can be shorter than we expect, and today is always the correct day to have fun.

And fun I am having in the 2.7 D4 I just bought - brilliant, absolutely brilliant.

But there is still something about the Defender.... I still love driving it too, so it stays. Hang the expense, so is the Jag, and the Oka, and the 50 year old P4 Rover sedan.... as I said, no pockets in shrouds!

Cheers, and enjoy your happy anticipation.

    I saw the same doc.
We will see what happens when it is released here but it wouldn't suprise me if Oz gets ripped off again.

    And well they should....

Go on and get the 2.7 D4. I did 12mths ago and have never regreted it.
By the way, the D4 purchase was $30,000 more than any other vehicle I had previously owned. Repeat: NO REGRETS!

    JamesH,

I'm not far off your age, still have a mortgage, still have primary school kids and I just blew a bucket load on another car.

It sounds like you have little debt and future overhead (eg Secondary school fees then Uni fees) so why the wait?

Enjoy a new car while you can.

The paddle shift is great, drove a RRS with it fitted at Eastnor earlier this year. I'm told the 8 speed box is equally good, but it's fitted here to allow a reduction in emissions which is something we get battered with here in the UK for road tax & company car tax.
