Just wondering what fuel consumption guys are getting in a mix of city/freeway driving?
My folks have only had their D4 for 8 weeks and are getting around 12.0- 12.5L/100km in a mix of city/freeway driving and are a little disappointed with the fuel economy. Their previous Merc ML 320 3lt Diesel would regularly get under 10L/100km.
The vehicle has only 2500km on the clock so could it be it just needs to run in some more? or some adjustments at the first service?
I know it weighs more and has more power and torque than the ML but the AS fuel economy put it more frugal than the Merc.
Maybe my old man has just developed a heavy right foot...
Any ideas appreciated.

Craig,
my D4 HSE now has 12,000k on the clock. Mix of city/country returns me 9.3 l/100. I have just returned from a trip Bundaberg to Brisbane (mix of open road and holiday traffic) @ 7.9 l/100 km.
Cheers

48K kms and rural driving (45kms to town) shows anywhere between 10 and 11.5. I don't unduly waste time but always try to conserve fuel. I think the consumption is too high for the gentle treatment its given, especially when compared to what's reported for 2.7s. Mine doesn't have a DPF so no excuses there.

First tank of fuel returned 12.3 l/100k - some city and country driving.

I get a average of 9.4L but thats the whole tank empty/ 75L.

I did a trip to Melbourne & back (from the Mornington Peninsula) on Friday after filling up with a full tank. When I arrived home, the display was showing 8.8Lt per 100Klm's.
Around town with the odd towing trailers here and there, it shows 11.5 or there abouts.
Interesting though, when I first bought the D4 3.0Lt, I went on a holiday towing my 2 Ton boat. At that stage I had only travelled 1,200Klm. Did the same trip 12 months later after travelling 45,000Klm's, and it used around 1 Lt per 100Klm's more.
In my opinion, I don't think that the economy will improve.
Cheers, Craig

My RRS 3.0 has done about 3,500. It is starting to become more fuel efficient.
Started at around 12/l per 100, but is now averaging 10.2l/100 on a 15:85 mix of highway and town driving.
Are these figures you guys are quoting from your trip computer, or are you actually recording km's & litres used and calculating your real fuel economy the old fashioned way ??
Me thinks some of these trip computers might be somewhat optimistic ...
8L/100Km is 35mpg .... really ??

My trip computer says 9.3L/100km since new, now at 11,500kms. Actual figure is 10.2L/100km. I keep log books for trips and fuel purchased and used. I'm happy with that - 80% highway, 20% short trip and traffic with a 750kg trailer used over 2,500kms of that time. 3.0L D4.
