the car will be used mainly by the wife for city driving, so i guess high torque requirements will not really needed. i will be using it to tow a 1.2t boat sometimes and a bike trailer.

And, i can always chip the 4.0L later for greater torque if needed..

i think this is the only way i get to 'land' a D3 in my driveway :-)

The STX550 rides like an old horse cart and for "such" a torque output is a really poor performer - feels very soggy and struggles on sand.

Notchy box, rough idling engine... Just not pleasant to drive...

As I said - If going dual cab - Go the Amarok by VW...

If determined to go D3... Hold out and go Diesel... The V6 Petrol will just such your wallet dry.....

But on your budget - for a brand spankers, fantastic riding, great towing vehicle - Got the Amarok... We would have one right now if it wasnt the size of our Boat dictating a larger vehicle.

Anyway, I had a chat to the local dealer today and he said that you can only obtain extended warranties with cars that are purchased from dealerships and not from private sale.

    Can anyone confirm this?

Also, we test drove a D3 tonight, and the wife thought there was a bit more roll during turning compared to our V8 D1 1995 model. She wanted me to ask this question on this forum about this roll, and is it normal?

Bought mine from a private seller in Sydney - drove it home to Victoria - re-reg etc and then bought the extended warranty over the phone - no problems ... haven't had to use it yet (and never hope to) but it gives me peace of mind - after all they are pretty complex bits of machinery !!!! $$$
I think the "roll" you speak of is the air supension working ... very relaxing long distance vehicle - just buy it - you'll love it !!!!!

    Thanks Gents. Great input.

Oldsalt - who did you contact to acquire the extended warranty over the phone? Is the warranty 'bumper to bumper' and not pro-rata based on kms apportioned to just how much they pay for the repair, etc, etc?

Tombie - I understand the Amrok only comes in manual - correct? The wife wants Auto. I have read some great things on the Amrok as well. Great input on the STX550 - obviously you have driven one to observe these specific deficiencies you refer to.

There is always be a hefty price premium on the diesel variants, no matter what year for the D3's. Add to this is the automatic $2k we need to pay (for transport back to WA, even if we do fly over and drive back) if we are buying on the Eastern seaboard..

    Sneigy - PM sent.

If the vehicle has factory LR extended warranty (say the customer purchased from the dealership & then a year or so later decided to sell the vehicle to upgrade) it can be transferred to the new owner for a cost of approx $75.00.
This warranty is like the normal warranty on the vehicle & also includes roadside assist, but does not cover things like paint, panel & trims.
Again as I have said always read the fine print for exclusions.
    HTH.
    Cheers.

Tombie - why give the stx550 a wide berth?

A fellow 4WD club member was on a club trip in his STX 550 to Cape York, did nothing extreme but bent the chassis. The car is a write off.

Happens to many dual cab utes especially if towing a trailer, they where not.

Silly bugger went out and bought another Nissan! ( At least it was a Patrol so it's stronger)

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you Byte. Black is no real issue for me. Sure, white would have been better but wasn't available from the stealer when buying. Rear A/C makes it all fine, car is cool in about 5 minutes flat. I do love an effective A/C.

Any other questions send an email. I'll send my address by PM to you.

    Cheers

    Extended Warranty available

    Hi Guys,
I've just enquired about an extended warranty for a Private sale Disco 3 that is out of factory warranty.(08/30kms)

Allianz was quite happy to offer it at a discount on the normal price.
    Regards
    Richard

    great!

what limitations exist in this extended warranty?

How does it differ from the standard factory warranty?

    Cost?

    A man of many questions!
I'd ring Allianz myself and ask for details and a copy of their policy.
That way you can answer your own questions.

    All,

i have looked at many 2009 D3 discos over the last 3 months, and we have come to the conclusion that we can get better value elsewhere.

we have just purchased a $47k 2009 nissan patrol, 3.0l diesel with 33k kms on the clock, top of the range model, 1 year still to run on the new car warranty with option of extending same new car factory warranty for another 3 years.

as much as i love the landrovers (still have our 1995 D1), we just felt there was better value elsewhere, and the 3.0l diesel motor is fantastic!

thank you all for your input into this thread.
