    Byte,

    Comments and some answers to the questions you asked;

The pricing of those 4.0 petrol (as noted by White D3) seems pretty high, more like what you would pay for the 2.7TDV6. TDV6 gives much better range and resale than the petrol.

A/C in the vehicles is great and rear air was an option. It was included if you went with the glass roofs (alpine roof).

Whilst you miss out on a bit of bling in the SE V's the HSE in my opinion none of it is really important and the SE offered everything you want and need in luxury 4wd.

I think the colour would be irrelevant, put a good tint on the black one and it should be fine. Mine is silver so i have no real basis for this observation but any car will get hot in the sun.

Factory warranty is 3 years and many takeout an additional 2 yr warranty.

Before you buy check they have had all the known recall done, there were 2 I think and I know mine has a little plate on the drivers door sill noting they were completed.

Otherwise they are a great vehicle and should give you lots of enjoyment.

    thanks.

Re: prices - living in the wild west, everything is so much more damn expensive than the east.

What were the 2 recalls that you know of?

Does that white petrol SE I noted have the alpine roof?

Can the extended warranty still be taken out during the 3 year warranty term?

The 2.7 is a lot slower off the mark and takes some time getting used to. BUT I'm gettng 10's around town and 8's on the hwy where the D3 4.0 was doing 15's around town (18 in heavy traffic) and 10's on the hwy.

For the price differential you could afford a business class airfare over East and drive it back !

Not sure of the details, one fixed by an ECU car computer software patch or upgrade the other I think was to do with brake cylinder or high pressure fuel pump or the like (just know there were 2).

No idea, if the roof is glass and it has a sunroof in the front then it has the alpine roof.

Yes, pretty sure you need to do it prior to the expiry of the factory warranty.

Funny that I live on the East coast and could not find a good example of what I wanted over here! The price from Southern Landrover in WA was good.

I ended up with the eDiff and the dealer had not listed it on the description. ( I don't think they even knew!)

I wasn't really keen on the Alpine roof before I bought it thinking that it too would make the car an oven, it doesn't! I love it for the more light it lets in. Yes only the front pane opens and all 3 have sunblinds which are perforated not solid.

Get that White TDV6 as it has plenty of options fitted including a long range tank (looks like maybe not),spare wheel carrier and snorkel.
Get a Remap and it will take off like a scalded cat from the lights!

My car was out of Factory warranty so it only had the 3 mth dealer warranty, I paid extra for the Allianz extended warranty which has paid for itself.
Yes make sure the car has the latest software for the gearbox etc.

I'm sorry I just wouldnt buy either,,
Theres just no point spending that sort of cash on a petrol model,,

    Get a diesel - you'll love it.
If you have to fly over "here" to buy a good one just think of all the fun you'll have driving it home - via the Vic high country and the Flinders Ranges area etc etc ....

What is the standard warranty on these units from new (km or years)?

WHy is the TDV6 that much better even though the price of diesel fuel is that much more expensive?

    What about this TDV6?

Which LR dealer in Perth did you use to get your HSE?

    Byte,
This vehicle IS an 09MY, it is the VIN that determines MY not registration time
Warranty on all Discovery 3's is 3 yrs or 100,000Km's.
The 10th digit on all LR's tells what MY it is.
    Cheers

    Thanks people.

You have all convinced me to get a 2.7L TDV6 Series 3.

The Power and torque values for each one (diesel and petrol) just cannot compare and it just seems the higher CC's in the petrol engine is just pure waste - nothing to be gained.

I have my eyes now tuned to that TDV6 in Albany that is advertised as 'MY08', but it seems it might be a 'MY09' according to one of the posts here.

I am tryign hard to convince the wife the virtues of the diesel over the 4.0L thirsty donk. Slowly getting there.

    Here are her concerns -

she thinks the dealer would have wound back the clock for a landy that low on K's (especially diesel).

she is concerned about something breaking and cost a fortune (out of warranty period).

..... I told her it has full logged history and the owner was a shipmaster who did not spend much time on land....(or so the dealer says anyway)...

    THoughts?

PS - i wonder why the dealer is advertising as an 'MY08'???

Who should I have check it out mechanically as a pre-purchase inspection?

Albany is 450km from the nearest Landy Specialist (in Perth)

BTW - this vehicle as a long range fuel tank (1900km range) - Do you know approx what size fuel tank that woudl be, and what is stock?

What would an OEM bumper cost to replace the bull bar?

The odometers cannot be wound back.

MY09 started production about August 2008 so it would have a 2008 compliance plate if it was available for sale in 2008. The dealer has to quote the compliance date when selling it. My D4 is MY10 but is registered as a 2009 model because the date on the compliance plate is Dec 09.
