small change in tyre size - any issue??

    Hi all,

Local tyre dealer checked his 'book' and advised me that I can have Coopers AT3. They are 265/60/R18 so an increase in width from the 255 dealer boots that they issue us with.

Will there be any issue with this? Pressumably a slight increase in fuel usage. I'm guessing it will still fit in the spare bay under the rear?

    Thanks

I had 265/60R18 AT tyres on my D3 for 4 years - they were great. The speedo becomes closer to the true speed and the spare fits without any issues. It is also a legal size in NSW/VIC/etc, so no worries.

    Hi Ozzy,
I've got them on my D3 as well, pity you aren't a bit closer I'm looking to get rid of them in favour of some GGAT2's. No matter. I have no complaints with the size of the tyres the Coopers I have are just a bit light duty for all the fruit I have on my D3.

Was it the AT/2 model GG's that Redback had on his D4 for his christmas trip?

If so might be an idea to talk to him first before buying a set, three of his brand new GG's failed quite badly on their first outing. Haven't heard of any new Cooper AT3's failing off road to date, so maybe the General Grabbers might not be a better option.

    cheers,

Yes the GG AT2s are not a LT contruction tyre, they are not design for offroad and do stake easily, stick with the (OMG I never thought I'd ever say this) Coopers if they have been good!!!

I'll be fitting 265/65R18 to my D3 when they arrive. As far as the speedo accuracy goes: there is a function in the satnag screen settings that is for calibration after changing tyre sizes. At least I think that is what it is for, because that's what it says on the screen .

I used it recently when I went down to 60 profile, the speedo was accurate beforehand, and after pushing the button and driving for a bit I checked and the speedo was again accurate.

Would love to see a pic.....I can only find BFG in this size. Would be happy with those anyway, but I am a Cooper fan (three past sets have never let me down), and they do make that size but apparently don't bring to Australia. It seems that this size is quite rare....could be a worry if both spares are unrepairable in the bush.

It has been suggested that they will scrub on full lock....be keen for you to confirm this. Extra rubber and 1.6 inches higher would be nice. Might cure my sand problem.

I'm to not sure BFG A/T's will cure sand problems.
