NWC - Extended Warranty Claim - declined

I have a 2005 SE with <75k on the clock. The other day a suspension fault was was recorded and Austral Motors determined that a new compressor was required and a claim was lodged with National Warranty Company (the extended warranty was sold to me by Austral in the first place).

NWC initially declined the claim as the stealer had not sent in the service records at the time of each service and therefore, the warranty was void. This was eventually sorted out (took three days) but they declined the claim a second time claiming wear and tear and stated that a compressor is expected to fail after three or four years. Result: I had to pay for a new compressor ~$1500.

Isn't every mechanical part on a vehicle subject to wear and tear?
If at 75000 km, it is wear and tear and not claimable - what repairs would be covered by the warranty?

That's funny, just read your post on the UK site.

Actually, that's not funny (the claim rejection).

I have been told to go with Allianz, which I will be doing when the D4 gets closer to 100K.

    Cheers, Craig

My experience with extended warranties is that they are often not worth the paper they are printed on.

I two own 2005 se tdv6 ..... Only about three weeks ago my suspension kept dropping and fault light came on .... I had purchased " extended NEW car warranty" with this vehicle supposedly backed up by guess who Southside in Briz whom are no more but merged with austral ..... Was told that mine was brake sensor !!! Not expensive to do by usual standards !!! But also not covered under warranty as wear n tear just like yours.... The kicker is after two years of my special inflated priced extended new car warranty I find out it is a pile of B S the NWC is my warranty mongrel .... needless to say lots of choice words later .... the bottom line.... As you pointed out useless warranty very costly pj haze and lesson learnt.... 1. Would never have purchased car at the inflated price without LR backed warranty 2. Never never have agreed to NWC as warranty supplier 3. Again screwed by smart marketing sleazy words from car sales people ..... After purchasing over thirty cars in my lifetime I really thought I had learned my lessons well. Now too broke and don't care anymore but private cheaper sales only in my future !!!!
Upside I love my D3 soooooo much can't decide to part or not to part with it before I am bankrupted with repair bills ....ohhh and the real dwn side is we are LR mad and have D3, D2, D1, defender 110 TD5 all in this happy home :-/...... OMG come on lotto!!!!

I've had similar run ins with extended warranties in the past. However, given the potential costs of the D3 I went with Allianz and have so far claimed more from them than the cost of the policy.

Sorry to hear that NWC are not so good. Do you not have a claim against the dealer? I was also offered this policy from Austral and they were implying that they had negotiated a special policy with NWC, they would be paying out on more claims than a usual used car warranty as this was a new card warranty plan, etc. Do you not have a claim against Austral for selling a bad policy? In this case you don't want the money back on the policy as buying it caused you not to get cover from someone else. You need Austral to stand behind the product you sold. That may be tough, as they are quite mediocre in customer service.

    Mediocre is being generous!!!!
More like once you pay over the big bucks no one wants to know you after that ecpecialky with a warranty item or what should be warranty item ....... Better still LRA should probably do the " mandatory modifications " ...... To u n me that means a " national recall" on continually dud engineered items ie those that fail all the time inside the 1 - years after manufacture that car is on the road ( warranty period).
When u get extended warranty u just go round the three year breaking cycle and replace all the wonderful parts with the same hard wearing lasting sold parts ( NOT)
Oh well I can have a sense of humor about it cause not bankrupted yet !!! But it's getting closer !!!!
I still love my D3 and know it is a great 4wd and has never really let me down in any tough tight 4wd situations ..... It waits till we drive past the LR mechanic to do this which is kind of cute in a way .... Pretty loyal !!!!
Yes / we Are all severely twisted and demented by the green oval bug in this house!!! And not even Pommie ( well way back as convicts maybe).... lmao!!!

    Misleading and deceptive conduct.

    Take to fair trading.

    "Covered Components
This Warranty contract covers mechanical and electrical
items as covered by the manufacturer, which are
specified in the Manufacturers Warranty book"

Did the gadget wear out or break? If the former then it is not a warranty matter unless the wear was not of a typical nature but because of faulty material or manufacture. If the wear or breakage was from neglect then likewise it is not a warranty matter.

You can't warrant against the car wearing out in the normal course of events.

Most new car dealers would consider a seven years old car with 75,000 on the clock as an "old" car and many would send a car in this class straight off to auction when traded in.

New car warranty does not differentiate whether worn or broken. It failed. Warranty covers failure. NWC is a bad product run in a deceptive manner.
It is up to you but if you don't complain you won't get your money.
