Reversing Camera to D4 with touch Screen

I have contacted HIDS4U in the UK about their GVIF so that I can use the touch screen as a reversing camera viewing screen.

    This has been the reply.

    ""Hi Brett
I have been checking for you and we are 95% certain if you have the touch screen then you can add a camera using the gvif
    Br
    Ian""

95% certain is pretty good. This guy certainly knows his stuff from what I read on the D4 UK Forum.

Has anyone fitted this the a D4 with a touch screen ? My D4 is classed as 2012, but I picked in up new in 2011 December. It has a colour touch screen.

I have found on the forum a fair bit of info about the GVIF and fitting instructions, but nothing for the D4 with the touch screen.

I am tired of having the extra monitor sitting against the front window to watch what is going on at the rear......a minor gripe but would be nice to have it more factory looking.

    Hi Brett

If the lifeguard at the beach said that you had a 1:20 chance of being eaten by a shark if you went in the water, would you go swiming?

    The questions therefore are:
    • what is the cost, shipping and installation of their GVIF?
    • If it doesn't work what do I do?
    • Will it void my LR warranty?
    • How much do I want it?

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

They are quite pricey but you can do a lot more than just a camera, you can add digital TV and other AV inputs.

Ask if you can return it if it doen't work. I think they mean it works on D4s but has not been tested on an MY2011. Do a search on DISCO4.COM - Index.

No it won't. The manufacturer only had the right to refuse the warrnty claim if the device has actually caused the failure.

So for $400, why wouldn't you try this device for your reversing camera?

Advanced ICE Pty Ltd - Land Rover From 2012 VIM for Retrofit Camera or Nav

It comes from an Aussie vendor so warranty etc apply.

I have contacted these guys....they are waiting for someone in QLD to drop a D4 with a touch screen in to test....they don't know if it will work until they test it.
I put a call out a month ago for a QLDer to drop in....but no replies.
I would support this one, if it was confirmed.

I'm guessing it will be you or I who have to drive up to Brissy to check, it would be more risky buying the one from the UK.

This evening I sent an email to Graeme Cooper Automotive asking them to check the Advanced ICE item. We may go ahead and get one in and see what happens, if it works they may become an agent in Sydney, if it doesn't everyone will know.

    Will talk to them tomorrow.

I've fitted a cheap camera to my 2011 touch screen, I think it was less than $40 on the bay and needs to be activated using a faultmate or similar, it also has to be a NTSC camera. The 2010/11 touch screens have a 6 pin plug in the back, the middle 2 are for the reversing camera the other 4 are for venture cam and TV inputs.

The fuel for me to get there.....probably about 1000....would be cheaper for me to run the gauntlet.

    I am in WA ;-)

Let's see what cooper automotive have to say....fingers crossed it works.

MY fault mate cost about $1100 from memory but most including myself buy the cheap license that is locked to your car vin but can transfered if you get a new one or sell the faultmate. Google "black box solutions" and you'll find it. The lic for multi vehicles is about 3? times the price in each model ie d2 d3 d4 FFRR

They are not the best mob to get on with as they think everyone who is not completely computer techy is a fool, but I've found this with a lot smaller tech companies and there is plenty of other help out there. I think the biggest hurdles I had was buying a TOP end usb to serial connection and running the program as an admin in windows 7... BBS still recomend XP I think?

I've also changed my headlight setting to be on whenever the car is in gear (daytime driving light) adjusted the auto wiper sensitivity, turned off 3 flash indicators (I don't like them) get the car to beep when I double lock it, installed cornering globes and then activated them..... etc

The plug you are looking for on the back of your screen looks like the photo (I hope this works) and is courtesy of Wiggs on the disco 3 site
