I don't think the dealer I am speaking with genuinely has any idea what is happening. From what I understand - and happy to be corrected - the new MY model is due Oct/Nov. My theory is therefore:
They will run the 2.7 out, and run the 3.0 MY12 6 speed out by end of year.
Perhaps then sell the 3.0 MY13 6 speed (spec'ed like the current TDV6 i.e. basic seats etc) as the base model. And sell the 3.0 MY13 8 speed as the SE model.
Either way, I'm having trouble convincing myself to buy the 2.7 now - unless they really get aggressive on the price. But there appears to be enough buyers out there to discourage that.
Thanks to all for the information so far - certainly helping me with my purchasing decisions.

You'd hope they would widen the range up and bring out some really basic models for police ,outback use-mining etc --or do something fairly dramatic with the defender safety airbags cab room so on (-im not bagging the defender as i have had one forever ) i saw a comment earlier about the pricing being to high and 90 k is imho pretty out there for a vehicle for hard bush work

Detuned 3.0L is not just a detune. Different manifold and injectors I understand.

So twin turbo still or down to single? Either way it would have to be a pretty under stressed engine to anyone who cares about those things (ie long term owners).
Cheers

We could get lucky and get a manual with steel rims!
