Hi. Are you absolutely sure that the 8 speed is coming here for MY13 models? My dealer swore black and blue that we wouldn't see these next year.

My D4 is currently back with the dealer getting a couple of small issues sorted out and they have given me an MY13 Range Rover Sport and this only has the 6 speed, would think it's a little odd that the MY13 D4 would get the 8 speed if the RRS didn't.

I can confirm the MY13 definitely has the 8-speed gearbox and tweaked 3.0L V6, I've ordered mine and apparently it should arrive in Feb / Mar next year.

There is a number of little tweaks to the car, as well as a number of minor cosmetic changes including the addition of more options to personalise the look and feel of your Discovery.

I obviously can't wait to take delivery and look forward to being a fellow Land Rover driver!

Isn't it a little too early to have a MY13 RRS, by several months?

    .

I spoke with some of the LRA staff at the expo in Castle Hill over the weekend. My impression from those conversations was a confirmed 8 speed trans becoming available (which trim level not specified) and a de-tuned 3.0ltr for base model D4. There's also apparently "Terrain Response 2" which I took to mean new software.

As for MY13 RRS - I doubt there's any in the country yet. I wouldn't expect them to be availble before late October or early November.

Yes, mate, I am 110% sure. I ordered one, and while the MY13 isn't 'public' yet they go through it with you when you're signing up / forking out the $$. The specs will be released at the Paris Auto Show on the 29th Sept.

It has the tweaked diesel V6 (185kw) and the 8 speed gearbox with paddles on the steering wheel and the new gear changer (is a dial instead of the gear stick see pic below) plus a heap of other little changes and extra options (eg. the 'Black Packs').

I think the Discovery has got the upgrade because it isn't due for replacement for a few years (I'd say late 2014/early 2015) where as the RRS is being replaced next year so prob less a need to invest in any substantial MY updates as all will be covered in the new car.

    Horse Years

I believe English vehicle years are similar in concept to horse years.

I am led to believe that August/September is the the Engilsh annual vehicle registration start and end date rather than January 1st or the initial registralian date. Any vehicle actually built and coming off the production line takes takes on the MANUFACTURE YEAR from this date.

I took delivery of my D4 in November 2010 but via the VIN it is a MY11.

Australian compliance plate maybe different again. Mine is 2010 and the Australian registation thinks its a 2010.

I'm only going by what the key ring says on the car they gave me (RR SPORT SDV6 LUX 13MY), the rear of the car also looks different to the current RR Sport, it has rego of September and ~500kms on the clock.

Edit :I've checked the VIN on Topix and it's definitely a 2013. My dealer also did the back pedal and more or less said a detuned 3.0 diesel and the 8 speed gearbox should be here next year.

Had some spare time in Paris yesterday so went to the motor show. There was only one D4 on display and it was a MY12 in the std EU trim with the 8 speed that they have had for a while. All the focus was on the RR and Evoque with 4 or 5 of each on display along with a lone 90 defender. The show runs for another 10 or so days so it may be released later on.

The V8 is "mated to ZF's stronger six-speed auto." Should I be concerned when I plan to purchase an SE with the eight-speed and tow a 3T boat regularly? I don't want transmission trouble!!

    8-speed standard on diesels.

    2.7L discontinued.

    155Kw / 520Nm is the downrated one.

Paddle shifts that move with the wheel, rotary transmission select (as per MY2012 Rangies)

New interior and exterior colours available.

    Minor improvements eg sound system.

Terrain Response 2 is not available. It has had some tweaks, but the auto-sensing is restricted to Rangie III for the moment.

183Kw is the official figure. Not that 2-3kw makes any difference.

UK has had the 155/180 split ever since the D4 came out, they never had a 2.7 option nor a petrol.

I suspect the reason the petrol is 8-speed is simple return on investment. In the main market for the car eg USA it's not much of an issue. But in Europe and over here we count gear ratios and now even utes have 7 and 8 speed autos (Navara, Amarok) the wagons need to keep pace. I think at 8 speeds that's the reasonable limit, I just can't see the point of any more ratios especially given current engine technology.
