So almost 7 days exactly since I picker her up, we got nailed by a commodore who lost control coming down the mountain at Mount Buller. I saw him from a while away, and knew there was no way he was going to make the corner, but I couldn't do much apart from trying to get past him. Unfortunately nothing happens very quickly when in low range :-(
Anyway, when driving this morning back from the assesors, the car seemed to not want to change out of first until 4,500 rpm when taking off from a stationary start. Once it had changed, it was fine, but it did not want to be coaxed out of 1st when in full auto until the dial hit the 4.5k. There's no obvious fluid leaks, so any thoughts? Possible accident related damage or just co-incidence?

I would take it back to the assessor and claim it is accisent related. They will do the assessment and decide.
While anything is possible I doubt that sort of hit would have anything impact on the gearbox.

Plenty of electrical connections so could have disturbed something. If you don't tell them now they will tell you where to go later if you find out it was accident related.

Yeah i'm taking it back tomorrow. Apparently they need to take the doors off (they are very much stuck shut) to assess the damage to the B pillar and sill.
I just wanted to be informed so they don't try to fob me off. The car had an RACV done just last week so at least I have a decent set of proof that it wasn't happening pre-accident.
Hey Griffo,
did any of the airbags go off?
Cheers, Craig

Nope. Bit suprised, but i'm not sure they would have helped anyway to be honest.
The below photo's are an attempt to show how the sill has been bent inwards. The door is AFTER the panel beater pulled it out with a slide hammer (with great difficulty it must be said). Stupid me wound the window down, which naturally got stuck and so they had to cut holes in the door and pull it out so we could get the window back up. The rear door also has a 1" gap at the top so it must be well bent out of shape although it doesn't show.
Griffo - I'm very sorry to hear of your accident ... I know I'm generalising but bloody commodore drivers - why... oh why does it always seem to be Commodores ???? - rant over. (apologies to any GOOD Commodore drivers on here)
I'd be off to your LR dealer to have them run a full computer diagnostic check - just to be on the safe side and to have some ammunition if push comes to shove with the insurance companies.
good luck
