Thanks everyone. I didn't realise they were so sensitive, and still not sure I understand the logic behind displaying any error on the dash that isn't logged.

I'll grab a new battery, charge it up with the c-tek before putting it in, and see how she goes.

    Cheers

They'll probably just come up as communication losses, which really to a tech doesn't help you at all when diagnosing a car, because cars get faults like that in them all the time.

    Hi Griffo,
These vehicles (and that nearly includes all the new vehicles on the market) run what we call battery critical voltage.
Which really means that a small drop in voltage can result in a lot of comms errors & failure to start.

Now ECU's talk to each other on a Canbus Network, basically a loop with each ECU connected to one another via a twisted pair of wires.
If one fails to talk to the next because of say low voltage, this causes a chain reaction & fault after fault gets logged. This is the reason why
You see an error with say the gearbox fault, but it could be suspension related. Hard to describe & understand, but this in reality is what happens.

In my D4 2 weeks ago I climbed in to start it & the thing lit up like an early Christmas tree, took it to work, grabbed the tester to find "battery good-recharge"
State of charge was only 65% so I thought we'll, I will give it a good charge & that will be it.
4 days later off to work to teach driver training & Christmas tree again...Aaaaargh!
Tow to work on Monday - grabbed the tester again to find "faulty battery - bad cell"
Replaced battery & all ok at present.

Very frustrating & I can understand owners being peeved about the same circumstances happening to them but if the tester says all ok, we can only go on what diagnostic equipment we have to work with & these testers are what LR "tell" us to purchase.

    HTH
    Cheers
