Hi Garry,
As you know the faults I suspect you have a Faultmate, if you have, then why not try posting your questions the Blackbox site? They have a good knowledge base there. Another alternative would be to contact BAS, Pete really knows his stuff.
Drove down to Melbourne from Canberra towing a 400kg trailer - no issues and averaged about 10.5l/100km sitting on 110kph.
I picked up my load of another 700kg and set off back for Canberra sitting on about 100kph and managed 12.5l/100km and to get a flat on my nice new GGs via a large piece of metal. After changing tyres and refuelling at Glen Rowan fuel consumption was 15l/100km. 150km later the car just died with no throttle response and the i on the dash display. The i showed "Engine System Fault" but no check engine light. I pulled over with no throttle response and switched off and back on - all now OK.
About 50km further on power died but some engine response was there so again pulled over - the display this time indicated "Special Programs Off". Like before switching off and back on cleared the issue and I was off again.
Another 50km when passing a too fast B double I gain lost power - still able to pull the 1.1tonne at 110kph and took ages to get past the truck and again the display indicated "Engine System Fault" but no check engine light. This time I slipped into neutral, switched off and restarted and fault cleared and no further issues for the couple of hundred kms home.
This morning I found 3 engine fault codes
1. P0101 Intermittent Electrical Fault Mass Air Flow
2. P132B Turbo Boost Control A Intermittent Signal Fault
3. P023D Manifold Absolute Pressure - Boost Sensor A - Intermittent General Signal Fault.
Any ideas on what the cause could be for the loss of power - engine has a BAS map, has blanked EGRs (serviceable egrs connected electrically), inlet manifold butterfly removed and the inlet and MAP were recently cleaned of gunk.
Thanks
Garry

If the MAF had been a signal fault then I'd suspect a sticky turbo actuator mechanism. However being an electrical fault I suspect the MAF is the cause.

Have you pulled and checked the Elect connections to the Maff and Map for security & cleanleness etc or maybe a split in air intake system . When i checked my Map originaly it was totaly blocked and had been so for a long time so not sure what role it plays ( i know what role it should play ) as no faults ever appeared . I have done the same mod as you but no faults as yet , touch wood . Al

I had similar trouble, but was on D4 ended up being bend just before airbox, sucking closed, but D4 3lt have solid bend and D3 has perforated unless you have snorkel, worth having alook around there. Good luck

i was just reffering to elect conectors to map and maff just to make sure they have not pulled out a bit etc . as mine is blanked like yours but with working egr,s in situ i have not had any alarms show up on the dash after about 4 weeks of driving , out of curiosity i connected my faultmate up and found a P0402 exhaust gas recirc flow excessive but no other codes , cleared it and will see what happens , mine is a january 2007 build car so will just keep track of system for now .
I have been driving around locally and have no issues at all. I have filled up and calculated fuel consumption which was 18.5l/100km where the trip computer showed 14.9l/100km. (this is the worse fuel consumption I have ever got). I am used to a 10% error but that difference is a bit over the top - sort of defeats the purpose of having a trip computer in the car.
I decided to lift the engine cover to check the turbo hoses for leaks and splits but gave up - so without pulling things off to get access how can you inspect the hoses to see if they are Ok.
Thanks
Garry
