    Hi George,

Just a tip ensure they not just clamp but also glue
on the plastic trims around the wheel arches, I requested
this after reading it here somewhere but OL Penrith forgot
and after two weeks of city driving they where both gone.

They also cut quite a bit in the metal underneath when cutting wheel arches
flairs off which started to rust but only was visible after I lost the trims.

something I would look out for or better advise beforehand.

    Cheers

    Steve

I purchased one of the first gen tigerz 12000 with rope second hand for a mere $200- from ebay. Gave it a strip down, grease and put some sealant on the gearbox gasket. Mounted the solenoid without box behind the grille (early & cheaper solenoid).

The new grande models have a better solenoid than the cheaper model. The box is better sealed as well.

One thing to check is if you need a straight or offset hawse. Mine was supplied with a straight hawse but the xrox bar I have needs an offset type.

    Thanks clubagreenie,

I plan to have a play around with the winch over the weekend and check grease and gaskets etc to ensure it is a watertight as possible.

I heard the newer solenoids are a lot better than early models so will probably mount it on the bar.

Not sure about the straight or offset hawse, what have others needed as I think it comes with a straight one ?

It's hard to tell which you'll need until it's fitted, at least on the xrox it bolts to the winch mount bolts so they also need to be longer. When you split the gearbox, in case you need to rotate, undo the cross bars and pull. The long shaft through the centre of the drum if it comes out just stick back into the motor end as it's easier to line up later. There's a thin runner seal under the socket screws around the gearbox, undo these and you can rotate the gearbox. I liberally filled it with grease and uses loctite 515 master gasket on the seal. Reassembled and sat it in a bucket for a few hours. Pulled apart and there was no ingress at all.

With the hawse, tigerz have both available, ask and they might swap it for you.

    Crikey Redback,

You have got plenty of great kit on that beautifully set up D4, let some of us other buggers have a crack.

I was not aware that he was a one man band, might offer to give him a hand to fit my gear, but probably end up costing me more as it would be slower !!

He might be back by now, ours is booked in for a bit of fab work on the rear bar bracket and to have our daughter Amarok looked at, the new rear Dobinson springs have a squeak that shouldn't be there.
    Cheers Baz.

just had my winch and spotties installed at Superior Offroad 4WD $300 bucks for the lot including turn housing so I have easy access to release rope (when removing old winch they could not believe someon would install they way it was installed).

great service super friendly, and good price definetly recommend.

solenoid case for Grande is much better then Hercules so would definitely say the $200 extra are worth it. AU$629 for a 12000lbs winch with rope

Wasn't that Hercules install only a few weeks ago? Very glad to hear "solenoid case for the Grande is much better then Hercules" I was a little worried by your expiriance at first. We tend to use the winch when we are in deep trouble or some one else is. Failure is not a good option. Photo of your tricked up rig please.

Yes around 6 weeks ago but Solenoid stopped working and DP did not turn housing so a bit of a pain to freewheel winch.

Tigerz11 offered to refund so choose that and bought the Grande instead (time will tell whether that was a wise choice) but certainly looks much sturdier and I hope it will work (first test this weekend)
