We had our D4 serviced in Perth and I mentioned to the service manager that occassionally, when pressing the starting button, that nothing would happen. Release and do it again and away she went.
When we picked the car up they told us that the matter I outlined to them is a known issue and had been addressed in some LRA sevice bulletin or some such. The fix was to replace an electrical board in the dash.
Dash out, full day job.

They couldn't do it but gave me some paper work to give to our local dealer.The Perth dealership were brilliant by the way, didn't miss me dollarwise but were great.
Did that when we got home, went off to the local dealer. They said that they replaced the electrical component board, although interestingly, they said it was not a dash out job.
No different, worse if anything and yes, it is intermettent although often.
Any thoughts anyone?
We've gone back to our local dealer and they have got the mirrors out and are looking in to it with LRA and will let me know in the fullness of time.

I have occasionally had the engine not start or even turn over when pushing the start button but I have been putting it down to poor coordination between putting my foot on the brake and hitting the button ( hand is faster than the foot).
Thanks for the thread, I'll pay more attention to starting to see if I have any real issues. Vehicle is a Nov 11 build D4.

Hi Steve,
My 2011 HSE was doing the same thing, as well as intermittently losing power at take off. I had the brake switch replaced (5 min job) and both problems were fixed. Might be worth doing prior to pulling the dashboard apart.

SupporterMine did that for several months but hasn't done it since the brake light switch failed and was replaced.

The issue is the key fob pick up is not talking to the Instrument Pack (that in itself is an ECU) therefore the tech bulletin suggests to replace the I/Pack.
It is not a dash out job, just the I/Pack to be replaced & reprogrammed with the latest software, this can only be done by an authorised LR dealer.

I didn't realise this was a fault. I just press the button again and it goes. It might happen about once in every 20 or 30 starts, although if I'm hopping in and out all day and doing lots of starts I've noticed it happen maybe 2 or 3 times in a day. It always starts on the 2nd attempt.
Is this something that might get worse and prevent the car from starting? Or is it just a minor inconvenience every now and then that's unlikely to become a real problem?

Mine does it quite regularily. I've had the Instrument Pack replacement done, don't think it made any difference.
My car is three years old, doesn't seem to be getting any worse.
Always starts on the second attempt.

Modern cars are made to cost you money? They have added value to their product by ensuring it has to come back to the dealer for servicing and $$$$$$$ repairs?
I have a similar problem upon starting occasionally. I would say it happens about 1 in 15-20 starts (once every 3 weeks). Sometimes I wonder if I'm too eager jumpung into the car quickly, depressing the brake and start button in close succession, or if the radio key just hasen't hooked up to the computer quick enough.
Other times I am conscious of this and take my time, methodically throwing the keys into the centre console depressing the brake whilst putting on the seatbelt then pressing the start button. In doing this I occasionally get a bloody steering lock message on the dash and she doesn't fire - release brake and start button, go through the process again and she usually fires the second time.
Interesting to know it's a known fault, may have to get it sorted before the warranty runs out in June.
