I too would prefer the stick (with the paddles) - but as Mike says I'm not going to let that put me off the rest of the vehicle.
Meanwhile I guess I'll just have to enjoy driving it down to the cafe.
Cheers,
Jon
You are a shocker...
It may look smart, however I am unconvinced of its purpose... Its gained nothing...
Its only "value adding" quality is Price adding...
I'm sure it looks clean, but really what is the focus now for these markets?
Where do I rest my left hand now?
I'm sure for the 'knob twiddlers' this vehicle will be wonderful, but there are some of us who are 'stick manipulators'
Seems they are losing purpose and becoming Form over function.
LR in times past was always Form followed function.
If I was looking to replace the current vehicle, I would wear the new controls for the purpose of still having the overall vehicle.
But if, there was a production choice... I would go conventional shifter + paddles for road / towing use.
I too would prefer the stick (with the paddles) - but as Mike says I'm not going to let that put me off the rest of the vehicle.
Meanwhile I guess I'll just have to enjoy driving it down to the cafe.

But how often do you change gears with the steering turned that far?
For me, I would say never.

So is the red cable the new handbrake release for when the electronic system jams on when you're on the front of the barge with dozens of Nissans an Toyotas stuck behind you?
Surely by removing the gear lever that should have freed up enough space for a proper handbrake lever?
It's surprising how quickly you get used to the flappy paddles. My other car has both paddles and stick for shifting, but I find myself using the paddles mainly, especially when it's being driven enthusiastically around bends.
Does take getting used to, but in such a situation, you don't want to take your hands off the wheel.
