The 4x4DE carrier relocates the sensor on the D/s centre to prevent faulting.

SubscriberJust fitted a 4x4DE carrier to my D3. See photo attached. Notice wiring for the parking sensor which was relocated to the carrier latch.
I purchased this unit late 2012 on the understanding it was the last one available from 4x4DE as Michael was ceasing production. Comprehensive installation instruction were provided - easy to follow.
Key differences between the 4x4DE and others are the gas strut to aid opening and keep the carrier open even on a incline; and the door latch mechanism rather than a over centre cam lock mechanism.
You will find that the mitch hitch will be picked up by the sensers as well. From what I understand you need to romove the bumper and rotate the sensers to stop them picking up the tow hitch.
My sensers are still connected but they just beep and thats it once reverse is selected.
Cheers Ean
Yep, they do , I posted a while ago the first time I fitted the mitch hitch, and someone posted that you can rotate the sensers, but there was also a post about sticking a clear tape over the senser with just about 1/3rd cut out so the senser only worked on that restricted mode, but I couldnt get it to work when I tried it.
I remove the mitch hitch and rear carrier whilst in town so 90% of the time the car is normal with the original tow tongue in for the rare time we need it and I just refit everything if we venture out of surburbia.
I do know that wont work for some, but it does for us.If I was keen I would look at moving the sensers and mounting them some other way, but reality is I seen a rear parking camera for sale at repco for $100, so would just buy that and rig it up as it dont take long to use up $100 worth of my time stuffing around.
But thats me of course, others will disagree.
Cheers Ean
I tightened the bolt up so it's a nice smooth opening action and it holds in place pretty well, so far it's been O.K. for me. I've yet to try it when parked on a fair slope so time will tell ...
I also stuck one of those clear furniture protectors over half of the nearest reversing sensor and all seems to work as per normal.
cheers
Thanks all for the replies & info.
Looks as though the 4x4de version is temporarily out of production but if you are interested give Michael a call (details at http://www.4x4de.com.au/) as he is looking to make them available again & is making a list of interest...
Thanks for the offer connock - I may well do closer to purchasing one.
